West Ham United's 14-year tenure in the Premier League concluded on a bittersweet afternoon at the London Stadium, as the Hammers secured a comfortable victory over Leeds United only to suffer the devastation of relegation due to events unfolding seven miles away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite emerging triumphant through goals from Taty Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen, and substitute Callum Wilson, Nuno Santo's side were condemned to Championship football next season after Spurs secured a one-nil win against a sorry Everton side who hadn't won in eight games.

For long stretches of a sweltering afternoon in 30-degree heat, the home side's chances appeared dim both on and off the pitch. The lethargic Hammers struggled to impose themselves against a Leeds side that had already secured their survival two weeks prior. The moment the home faithful had been praying for arrived in the 67th minute when Castellanos met Bowen's corner delivery at the back post, powering a header past Darlow to ignite genuine hope throughout East London. That optimism intensified eleven minutes from time when Bowen himself drove a precisely angled finish into the far corner. Wilson slotted a third in stoppage time.

To say Farke's side were far from their best would be an understatement. The display carried the hallmarks of a side running on empty, with players appearing to go through the motions for much of the contest. Leeds were critically depleted by injuries to key personnel, leaving Farke with a squad that could fairly be described as the walking wounded. It's a credit to the Leeds medical staff and coaches that the players have reached the finish line, albeit with an empty tank.

Footballers frequently face criticism regarding their remuneration, but in the case of Leeds United's support staff, physiotherapists, coaches, and players this season, there can be little dispute that every single one of them thoroughly earned their wages through a campaign defined by perseverance in the face of adversity. Their survival, achieved through determination and collective spirit, stood in stark contrast to the well documented goings on at other clubs.

Tbf to West Ham it worked

They were 8th in the form table from January.

Few games earlier then who knows.

Issue was teams who were maybe a bit ahead of them also improved.

Forest were 5th
Us 9th
Spurs 17th but they had a 7 odd point gap on them from the games before.

West Ham threw £50 million down the pan in the January window, plus Nuno would have been offered a wedge of cash too.

We couldn't have afford to spend so much, thankfully.

West Ham deserve to down due to their poor management at the top.

Probably just me but I think it would be fairer if after the January window closes you can't appoint a different manager from outside the club. So sack your manager if you wish but you can only promote from within until the summer.

White Riot wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2026 4:57 pm Roughly 20 EPL goals/assists in his last 3 EPL seasons, which is very good.

But looks a shadow of the player he was.

He'll be off to one of the greedy 6 and his wages will be phenomenal.
Yeah, very little chance he comes to us mate.

He’ll be 30 in December, he’ll want a chance at a few trophies before it’s too late.

Got Wolves promoted with the Portugal national team.

West Ham's only win in their first 5 matches was when they beat his Forest at the City Ground.

I think when he took over West Ham they were two points adrift in 18th, and 33 matches later, they are exactly the same and relegated.

The bloke's a chump Cussie

Bowen not for me mate, he's been dreadful this season and lost all his pace. Maybe carrying an injury?

West Ham fans are all calling him out, so kiwell away.

They paid £40 million for that neanderthal Kilman which says it all really 😂
Tbf to Nuno his record is decent overall.

Lots of money at Wolves to get promoted of course but then back to back 7th placed finishes and a 13th so mid table.

FA Cup semi final and Europa League quarter final

Then kept Forest up and lead them to 7th following season and another FA Cup semi.

Then with someone else's squad had West Ham on track for over 40 points over a season.

And from January when he got some players he presumably wanted 25 points from 18 games which over a season would be over 50 points

Are a lot of Premier League managers who'd be very proud of that record.

Only real issue before this season was his spell at Spuds.
