The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 26th April) Leeds alerted to Ben Johnson's availability
Good Morning. It's Friday 26th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds alerted to Ben Johnson's availability
Leeds target Ben Johnson will leave West Ham at the end of the season on a free transfer, according to multiple reports in the media. The 24 year old full back is out of contract at the end of the season, and has not been able to agree new terms with the East London based club. He joined the Hammers at the tender age of seven, rising up through the age groups, before joining the first team in 2019.
He was hotly tipped to join the Whites in January after falling out with his employers due to wage demands not being met. Johnson currently earns £20,000 a week, which does seem a little low for a Premier League footballer. He wanted that figure tripled, but West Ham have refused. Leeds face competition from Ipswich Town, who are set to cash in on Leif Davis this Summer for circa £25m. Rangers, Southampton and Crystal Palace have also been linked with the versatile defender.
Bamford major doubt for QPR outing
Patrick Bamford is a major doubt to start at Loftus Road tonight, as Leeds look to put distance between themselves and Ipswich Town. The 30 year old picked up a knee injury during the 4-3 win at the Riverside Stadium midweek, leading to his substitution on 75 mins. According to Farke: "I will have to make some late decisions, Patrick has a big bruise on his knee."
This gives Joel Piroe an opportunity to stamp his authority. The former Swansea City front man has fallen down the pecking order this year, with Farke preferring Bamford to lead the line when fit.
Hull have it all to play for against Tractor Boys
Following their dramatic 3-2 win at Coventry City midweek, Hull City have it all to play for when Ipswich Town visit the MKM Stadium on Saturday evening. Hull may be bitter local rivals with Leeds, but have an outside chance of making the play off's if they can beat Kieran McKenna's outfit! They are now just three points shy of both West Brom and Norwich (who both also have superior goal differences), but it would at least give them hope going in to the final day of the season, should either falter at the weekend.

Yes I checked in a few times and wondered where it was. Today has been a rather quiet day, and I put it down to the lull before the storm, an all quiet on the Western Front type of thing, fully expecting all hell to break loose when the team for tonight's match is released... Or is it mourning in the trenches for the loss of Sara, her absence has not been commented on.

Been wondering where she had got to. Hopefully a temporary sabbatical, I've always enjoyed her input here.Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 1:12 pm Yes I checked in a few times and wondered where it was. Phew, when I took a quick look at the headline I thought it was Ben Johnson the Canadian sprinter ( showing my age there ) he’d be 63 now but an idea not to be sniffed at.
A great midweek result for Hull and should give them added incentive to beat Ipswich but as they need a win will that play into Ipswich’s hands, we struggle against teams who adopt the ‘ low block’ ( had never heard of that before joining this forum ) and seem to do better against teams who try to go toe to toe with us. If Hull were out of the running for the playoffs they would probably settle for a point but having to push for the win could leave them exposed at the back.

Too early to think about transfers.
Regarding Hull having it all to play for. By the time they play (8pm) Norwich and WBA will have already played, and with both having a superior GD ,Hull need at least one of them to drop points.
Odds on them both winning is c 7/2, (just over 22%)., so a good chance one will not win.

Very doubtful tbh, there would need to be changes.

Also worth keeping an eye on Coventry tomorrow (play Ipswich tues).
Slim chance, but if they beat Blackburn tomorrow, and either Norwich or WBA lose, they would go into the Ipswich game still with a live chance of play off place.

I would like to start a striker if Paddy can't go, so has to be Joseph for me over midfielder Joel Piroe

Get well soon Sara, you have no idea what some of us have to now contend with here.
I can only hope you're just way too busy with spring cleaning etc.

Remember his Gold. Then not Gold in Seoul really well. I'm sure he's lost a yard of pace since then.CUSSIE01 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 1:42 pm Phew, when I took a quick look at the headline I thought it was Ben Johnson the Canadian sprinter ( showing my age there ) he’d be 63 now but an idea not to be sniffed at.

As you say, too early to talk about transfers. Every potential target is contingent upon what division we're in. So, we'll talk about transfers in a couple of weeks.
