What Haighy said!
Typical Tory opportunism; Labour in-fighting, a rebellious Lords and an electorate who have reached saturation point with elections and referendums. Whatever the outcome, the working class, the poor, disabled and non-WASPs will be worse off.

Re: Theresa May calls for a General Election
Well i think i can avoid the news bulletins on the telly for the next seven weeks now
Re: Theresa May calls for a General Election
Do you get blasted with non-stop election ads on telly, the radio and in the print media? It drives me crazy during the election campaign and most of the are so biased that it's insulting that the party in question thinks that I'll fall for it.
Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

Oh well, maybe Leeds will be promoted as a consolation and you can put your recording of the Wembley victory on permanent loop on your telly.

Couldnt agree more with the earlier comments, sick of politics at the moment. Last thing we needed was a bloody General Election !!
After all May and her team said as well. They are all ( all parties ) a bunch of liars with self interest at heart.

I don't have a telly, nor do I buy newspapers... I only have the local radio on whilst eating breakfast 20 mins a day..

I feel your pain. The fundraising and jockeying for position has already started here in the USA for 2020, as well as the "public interest" advertisements from the massive political action committees.HarryofOz wrote:Do you get blasted with non-stop election ads on telly, the radio and in the print media? Re: Theresa May calls for a General Election
The way I see it this is caused largely by the SNP.
Any reduction in SNP vote will be lauded as a victory for the UK against a referendum.
The strength of the SNP means Labour will struggle to win regardless.
Jimmy Cranky appears to have stung Emperor Palpatine when she made comments about being unelected.
Jimmy Crankey also went on the "You have no mandate for this" track.
Right now the SNP are the largest thorn in the Govts side, an Election at worse makes this no worse, at best removes it, most likely deflects them for a period of time.

Every game I predict a 3 - 1 Leeds win, I am traditional like that.

As a self-confessed, lifelong "lefty", I feel this is going to be enormously depressing.

Half the people I know call me a lefty, the other half call me a right wing. so either I am doing something right or I just enjoy always pissing someone off.

Likewise, Durly. I truly believe Corbyn to be a man of the people, whose policies seek to create a fairer society with a more even distribution of wealth, properly funded public services and an end to tax breaks for corporations (most of whom fund the Tories). But his message seems to fall on deaf ears and is corrupted by both the MSM and the Blairite element within Labour who have lost sight of what being a socialist actually means. Sadly, I only see one outcome in early June and it will be grimDurly wrote:As a self-confessed, lifelong "lefty", I feel this is going to be enormously depressing.

I like Corbyn a lot and I hold a lot of the same beliefs. The weird thing is that, despite his approval rating being desperate, many of his policies are actually pretty popular. People like the ideas but won't vote for a Socialist. He's going to be a ridiculously easy target for the right-wing media to pick off in the coming weeks though. If they could do such an easy number on Milliband then they'll make light work of JC.lufc1304 wrote:Likewise, Durly. It will be grim viewing for the likes of you and me, mate. Chairman May will march back in with an increased majority and the perfect opportunity to further s*** on the poor and vulnerable and push through the "hard Brexit" that we apparently all voted for. We are edging ever closer to being a one-party state. The next few years are going to be very grim indeed.

Re: Theresa May calls for a General Election
I don't understand this; like a socialist policy, but won't vote for a socialist. Obviously why Blair, Brown and Mandelson moved 'New' Labour so far to the right that they were indistinguishable from the Tories they replaced.Durly wrote:I like Corbyn a lot and I hold a lot of the same beliefs. I personally think Corbyn would wipe the floor with May in any debates, but he won't get the opportunity as Downing St has ruled out any televised debates and will rely on their puppet-masters in the press to twist JC's message and spread disinformation. We are well and truly f**ked

Re: Theresa May calls for a General Election
Socialism as a concept has been demonised by the right-wing media, mate. It's looked upon with disdain now, even though the vast majority of the population agree with and share a good amount of its basic tenets. Just look at that Thatcher meme that goes around from time to time. Has a picture of her and says something like "the problem with Socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money". Guff. Utter s***. Was it Socialism that made the bankers gamble all our money away? No. The main issue is (I think) that as a Capitalist, consumer society, we have all been told repeatedly that Socialism doesn't fit in with the principles of being a "free economy".........which again is nonsense. If you agree with any form of state help or intervention - a free at point of use health service, financial help if you get ill and can't work/get made unemployed, are in danger of being made homeless, then you agree with the basic principle of Socialism.lufc1304 wrote:I don't understand this; like a socialist policy, but won't vote for a socialist.
