Match Thread Leeds Utd 2-2 West Ham Utd - Post Match Debate

Post by Ellandback1 »

Wednesday 4th January 2023 7:45pm | Elland Road

West Ham Utd make the long trip to Elland Road on Wednesday evening hoping to end a five-game losing streak, which has seen them slip to 17th place in the top flight. With only goal difference separating them from the bottom three, Hammers Manager David Moyes may well be on borrowed time. Another loss would surely spell the end of his five-year tenure.

Leeds cannot afford to be complacent. Even after their defensive display last weekend earned them an unexpected draw, the Whites are only two points better off than their East London opponents, with a game in hand (away at Manchester Utd which was postponed following the Queens death).

Marc Roca could return to the Leeds starting line up following his impressive second half display against Newcastle Utd last weekend, with Adam Forshaw expected to make may. Patrick Bamford, Archie Gray and Stuart Dallas remain sidelined, although Bamford is set to return to training this week. Marsch has some tough decisions to make with Ayling, Kristensen, Summerville, Gnonto and Harrison all pushing for game time.

Kurt Zouma (knee) and Maxwel Cornet (calf) are expected to miss the trip to West Yorkshire, but there's better news for Italian International striker Gianluca Scamacca, who has recovered from a persistent ankle injury. Michail Antonio is struggling with illness, but is expected to make the squad.

Eleven of Leeds sixteen points this season have come at Elland Road. They must get something from this game!

Come on Leeds let’s get clear of that relegation zone, 3 points would be great!

Setting off to the game in an hour or so, and quite frankly haven’t a clue what to expect. Not a clue.

Meeting my good friend of thirty-five years Mark from Sussex prior to the game, whom I haven't seen in a while.

He managed to purchase a ticket for £57 in the East Stand, had to renew his membership card too, he reckons he'll have to part with £300 including fuel & food costs.

Money is no object to my pal tbh, last he came up to Leeds for a match he bought a 65k car

David Gold passes away, RIP but odds the players will “do it” for Goldy tonight?

David gold has died - sympathies with West Ham. Will it change things for tonight? Be framed as looking to get a result for him I’m sure, maybe tips an already finely balanced match in their favour.

No reason it shouldn’t

This is a match where if we're looking to stay up we should win it.

A draw wouldn't be disastrous, but a defeat would be.

West Ham are at a very low point and back to where they were when Moyes took over

They've spent a lot of money, but a lot of their big money signings have not been successful.

Lots of their fans are calling for Moyes head and if you've watched them this season you'll understand why.

Their play is so slow and uninspired and toothless.

I expect us to get an early goal and they will capitulate as they've been doing all season.

Come on Leeds, easy 3 points are there for the taking

Also, could have an adversed effect on the hammers players, James.

I remember when Chelsea's manager died on the Friday night prior to their game against us in 1967.

We won 7-0, seven different scorers, one an OG.

I was only 5 then Leon, so don't remember that one, but it would be around the time I started supporting Leeds

For all Marsch's detractors, and as you know I'm not one of them, he has produced fight and grit in our players

The same can't be said for West Ham, Moyes has lost the dressing room and they don't give a s**t about him getting booted.

They are an absolute embarrassment.

We need to take full advantage tonight.

Must be a very toxic fanbase given the West Ham twitter account turned comments off on his death announcement.

RIP.

Their ground was just about empty well before the final whistle against Brentford.
