Occasionally when our full backs and the team are on the attack you mean yes ?

Are you a fan of teams that park the bus, is parking the bus and playing 5 - 6 at the back your preferred formation/style of play ?

DF's just got it absolutely perfect, giving players a game, then introducing 1st team players against tired legs.

But he should've started them yes ?

Jeez the garbage on here is hard to digest.

Compare that to travelling back having won, played well after a totally dominant display, scored 4 goals and the prospect of a game against Premiership opposition.
Winning last night will instil a sense of invincibility in the team and that is invaluable at this stage of the season. Last night showed us we have decent cover if needed in most areas of the pitch, Joffy looked sharp, Joseph stepped up, Gnonto is grabbing his chance with both hands, Byram looked great again and Cooper looked untroubled for most of the game. Bring on Chelsea/Villa I say.
Night and day coach trips, Cussie. I think DF has definitely has done more for this team in terms of man-management and cultivating the right mentality in so many different ways, not the least of which is finding players that are hungry to play, Roberts being the most recent example. But there are so many other aspects too that go into keeping our current run of form on track and maintaining that attitude and mentality, including the approach he took to help engineer the win--i.e., who started, who subbed, etc. There's definitely an art to this aspect of management and he seems to be pressing all the right buttons.

Winning keps the momentum going. You just have to watch the celebrations from the goals to see that the players wanted to win rather than it just being a run out. Some good minutes for fringe players and also a useful rest for Ampadu. Firpo is hopefully building up his strength and no reason why he can't be strong for the rest of the season and if he needs a bit of a breather there is the option to give him half the match on Saturday and Byram the other half. Roberts can come in at right back so if eith Gruev or Kamara need a rest Gray can slot into midifeld. Summerville, Bamford, Rutter all got a decent run out to keep them ticking over. Gnonto is building up his match fitness and with another goal should be getting his mojo back. Rodon may have heavy legs but with Ampadu to return and Cooper having a good run out it hopefully gives us the option to give him a bit of a breather by bringing him off on Saturday in the second half if the result is sewn up. Gelhardt got decent minutes and looked sharp too so really there were a lot of positives last night.

John in Louisiana wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 12:42 am So you're saying a team should essentially go three deep at every position so they can have a decent second bench when they have to call on their first bench.

I get your point, as injuries are inevitable, but who can carry twenty or twenty-five quality players, especially at the Championship level? Citeh and Liverpool might have enough games on their schedules - and money in their accounts - to ensure that they can not only go three deep, but have quality that far down their rosters, but that's an impossibility for Leeds, even with promotion. We simply don't play enough games to keep that many players in minutes.

The squad we have - two deep at every position - is the best any Championship side can hope for. In fact, we're deeper than pretty much every other team in the league.
Not what I'm saying art all. I am saying a team needs not to have a yawning gap between the top 18/20 and the next men/boys up.

I think the 2 DC's and the 2 MC's do less running around than everyone else. Less than the full backs, wingers, and forwards. So they probably don't need a rest as much.
Agreed

andrewjohnsmith wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 1:53 am That's my one concern. We should have a couple of players in the 21's that are good enough to cover if needed. We've sold or loaned out anyone that is good enough. Perkins is - but there's obviously a personal issue with him. Would be nice if he straightened his head out. But, basically nobody in the 21's at the moment who can be considered emergency back up.
Charlie Crew for me, defensive mid, is the closest to the full squad, he'd be the one getting bench time if we can't put togethger a full squad. Wales 21's captain at times, very promising but a long way off the first team as he hasn't filled out yet..

Small case for Perkins who's head isn't in the right place atm and the winger who's name escapes me
