Match Thread Plymouth Argyle v Leeds Utd Match Thread

Post by Ellandback1 »

17th February 12:30pm | Home Park

Pilgrims boss Ian Foster is getting his excuses in early, as his side prepare to welcome Leeds back to Home Park. The two sides fought out a thrilling Cup tie just twelve days previously, but it seems Plymouth are now regretting going toe to toe with the West Yorkshire giants. According to the head Pilgrim, his side are struggling both physically and mentally due to the size of his squad, and it hasn't helped the Plymouth cause that Leeds have had an extra 24 hours to prepare; with Foster claiming 'Leeds will be rubbing their hands'.

Daniel Farke is unlikely to risk Patrick Bamford. The 30 year old was a late withdrawal from the side that ripped Swansea City apart midweek. He has a muscular issue which will probably keep him out of the side for several weeks. Sam Byram (hamstring), Stuart Dallas (leg), Pascal Struijk (groin strain), and Karl Darlow (dislocated thumb) are all ruled out, whilst Jamie Shackleton could return to action. The 24yo missed the trip to Swansea, as his partner was giving birth to their first child.

Plymouth will be without Darko Gyabi (cannot play against his parent club), Keeper Mike Cooper (long term knee injury), forward Mustapha Bundu (calf) whilst former Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw is struggling with a knee injury!

Shame about Darko not being able to play, I’d like to have seen him in action, just to see what he’s like, like.

From the presser…..

No Byram, Bamford, Dallas or Struijk.

Otherwise everybody else available.

Well, we have no midweek fixture after this game. 6 days until we play Leicester. So no thoughts of rotation. I see us just putting out the same team from Swansea.

Think it's fairly clear it's what will happen regardless of schedule.. Dead man's shoes. Don't get injured or suspended ....or lose. I'm expecting James etc to be off the bench until circumstances change

I just wonder if they might rotate 3 or 4 the following week at Chelsea. Speculation as we don't know what the injury/fitness situation will be.

The cup being a different beast altogether. I don't know if Farke will stick by his usual plan for cup games or go full strength

Looking at our fixtures in March, we play 5 games we should win (4 of bottom 6).
Going in to those , think I would take 4 points from next 2 (plym and Leics next week).
Nervous about today.

It's certainly not a foregone conclusion that we'll win this.
So far the three games have all been close with the exception of extra time in the replay. They've managed to score in all three games.
However, this time we'll start with our strongest 11 available so I'll be expecting a win.
I can't watch the game today so will keep checking in here for updates.

"Leeds will be rubbing their hands" is a bit of attempted psychology by Ian Foster. Nice try.

I'll onlt be "rubbing my hands" if we win, I'm not getting excuses in early like them, tough game to be expected.

Hate these early kos.
Flat atmosphere won't help, plus losing Bamford.

And has already been said, hats off to anyone travelling to the game, a win would make the journey home easier.

Saints and Ipswich are still very much involved in the promotion race.
Hopefully the team can get 3 points, then take a breather before the Leicester game.
