Investment Update & Fixture Changes

Weeks of silence from the club hierarchy regarding the potential investment at the club has left fans begging for morsels and crumbs on the message boards and twitter, hanging on the rumours of complete strangers. It can’t have been doing anyone’s hearts or fingernails and good! This afternoon the club finally released a statement updating fans on the latest developments, the statement reads;

“Further to our previous statement of the 29th May, Leeds United can confirm they have granted an exclusivity period to enable a potential investor to carry out the appropriate due diligence. It is anticipated this will be a fairly straightforward process. A confidentiality clause prevents the club from making any further comment. However, our discussions with them have left us very comfortable that they have the financial resources to support the club and that they will have no issues in satisfying the requirements of the Football League's Owners and Directors Test, unlike many of the previous approaches we have had to endure. We will not be making any further announcements in the near future.”

Some fans may have wanted more, they may have been seeking confirmation that a deal had been done and that a Ken Bates free future for the club had been secured. People may be disappointed but at least this means talks have not broken down and that they are on-going. This is the furthest that any discussions have got in 7 years and that has to be a major positive right now. We still do not know if this is a fully fledged takeover or an offer of investment, whatever it is from the latest statement it sounds as though the future of the club will be very much brighter should it be successful.

In other news two of our fixtures have been moved following the announcement of the first games to be broadcast on TV. The season opener against Wolverhampton Wonderers at Elland Road on Saturday 18th August has been moved to a 12:45 kick off time. Our away trip to Sheffield Wednesday has also been moved from the Saturday to Friday 19th October, 7:45PM kick off time. Both games will be live on Sky Sports.
