Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
Assuming nobody major leaves (Sini, Gnonto etc).
Maybe people like Bate do or Gyabi.
What do we need?
Piroe is a great statement of intent but before Piroe most felt we needed 5 or 6 in maybe 4 or 5 at a push.
So we still thinking 5 is the ideal number?

Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
Going by that assumption I feel we have enough firepower to score goals.
Although I was really happy with how rutter played yesterday. I still feel we need someone that can unlock tight games. I'm not sure rutter is that man. Maybe Poveda...or maybe someone more experienced doing that role. Like the rest of our signings.
Defence is still a problem...byrum if fit for the most of the season will do a job. But aAyling I'm less than convinced with. Out of position too often...sticks his hand up and hopes officials will agree with him...falls over to much and it doesn't work anymore..
So for me a RB or LB depending on which side Byrum prefers to play.
Back up for either Ampudu or Gray
And a creative midfielder. So 3 signings imo

Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
As before a full back, dependant on the severity of Byram's injury, how close to fitness Firpo is and if we plan to retain Drameh.
And a central midfielder.
Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
This is where my head is at. Need to ensure we retain all of our wingers or there could be a need there, as well. This week is going to be nerve-racking to see how the squad ultimately shakes out.

Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
We look a bit lightweight in midfield, so Glen Kamara would be a good signing to add strength. Especially against the likes of Millwall and Cardiff, so we're not easily bullied.
Tanaka doesn't look all that from the reel. If we're looking at Japanese players, Kuryu Matsuki would be a good under the radar signing, but I'm not sure if he'd get a work permit.
I think someone will leave before the deadline, maybe Meslier or Drameh, or both.

Cant get this transfer window closed early enough for me. I do expect some team to make an offer for either Willy, Sini or Jimmy, whether we allow them to go or not i have no idea. In an ideal world we keep them all and add to this squad, but time will tell.

Mr Hay has spoken.
10, cm, full back.
Ao Tanaka link is genuine and a Farke recommendation
Loan bid in for Djed Spence.

The other we were talking. I said an AMC/10 and a LB. You persuaded me about cover at DMC. So I'm in the same place as Phil Hay.Cjay wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 12:16 pm https://archive.ph/938QV

Notably, I think that both the 10 and the DMC should be versatile enough to play the Archie Gray role. So I'm looking for 2 midfielders that can cover 3 positions
Similarly, it would be nice if we sign a FB that can play both sides. Makes Max Aarons look like an ideal signing.

Phil has said we are looking at left and right back (named Djed Spence and Luke Thomas) which is sensible.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 2:12 pm The other we were talking. I said an AMC/10 and a LB. You persuaded me about cover at DMC. So I'm in the same place as Phil Hay.

We seem to have multiple options for the cm, O'brien, Tanaka and Kamara, ideally 2 of 3 for me but would be relatively happy to settle for 1(leaves us short depth wise imo).

Gyabi will be fine, just needs a run of games ..

Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
Trabzonspor itk accounts on twitter seem to be getting very upset over a deal for Angers and French youth International defensive midfielder Batista Mendy.
Say they had a deal agreed with the club but Mendy wants to join us and is in discussions.

“An unnamed Championship club have reportedly offered £8.6m for Batista Mendy, who'd be ideal alongside Ethan Ampadu at Leeds United.”

Trabzonspor FC also had a welcome to the club video out 23 hours ago. Trouble brewing

Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
So Brentford bid 43m for Johnson. They certainly have the wedge to offer for Sinisterra then.
What is the monetary difference between those two

Re: Summer 23/24 transfer and squad discussion thread.
Sinisterra should be more.
Only advantage Johnson has is he is 22 and Sinisterra is 24.
Sinisterra has played (and won awards ) in European football competitions.
Sinisterra plays for a much higher ranked international team.
Sinisterra has a significantly better goal contribution rate per minute in the Premier League.
Also a more accurate shooter and dribbler and took fewer poor touches and had a better pass accuracy.
Sinisterra is the better player now.

I've seen about 20 minutes of Gyabi.
20 minutes too much.
If we had a 4th team, he'd be in it.

Way better & worth way more. Different level if fit. Is that the problem?Cjay wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:49 pm Sinisterra should be more.
