Re: Dan James
I've been raving about DJ all season.
Dan's pace & work rate is breathtaking at times.
One of the first names on the team sheet for me.

Just goes to prove, Bielsa didn't get everything right.......cue Kenny boy.Prisoner37 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 6:25 pm DJ is using his speed to great effect this season.
I have always admired his attitude and work rate. To be fair to the lad he has had a good run now as a winger and is proving his worth in his natural position.

Re: Dan James
I don't thnk we really ever got to see what Bielsa saw as Dan's best position, he played as striker because of injuries to other options not because that was where Bielsa envisaged him playing - albeit my personal feeling was that Bielsa might have seen him as a central player, possibly a 10 in a similar role to Samu Saiz being able to bring the ball out fromt he back very quickly. I also felt Bielsa used the opportunity to play him up front as a way to try to develop his end product, which is still very erratic, so that even if he did play wing he would be far more of a conssitent goal threat sort of like how Thierry Henry or Mo Salah scored lots of goals from reciving the ball out wide. My view was that long term Bielsa wanted an attacking 3 (2 wingers and centre forward) to play and be as successful as Liverpool's front 3. The 3 would interchange seamlessly and all be capable of scoring 20+

As you say, we didn't have the same options at that time.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 7:12 pm I don't thnk we really ever got to see what Bielsa saw as Dan's best position, he played as striker because of injuries to other options not because that was where Bielsa envisaged him playing - albeit my personal feeling was that Bielsa might have seen him as a central player, possibly a 10 in a similar role to Samu Saiz being able to bring the ball out fromt he back very quickly. Great to see Dan develop & gain the trust of our fans, I suspect James & Rutter are the big surprises for all our fan base.

Re: Dan James
I was delighted when Dan James wasn't one of those that jumped s**t, I wonder if he had the optionin his contract as I would have presumed he would. Pace in this division is a huge weapon and am delighted for him as he always comes accross as a nice lad and still remember how gutted he looked when the initial move fell through and how made up he seemed when he got a good reception from the Leeds fans when we played Swansea a couple of weeks after the move fell through.
For me the main trouble was that most fans felt we overpaid for him, but that wasn't his fault. They then expect him to be something that he isn't and that increased when, as mentioned, he played out of position in a struggling team.

James is worth the money we paid for him now, it's been a long time coming, but sometimes good things are worth waiting forweasel wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 7:28 pm I was delighted when Dan James wasn't one of those that jumped s**t, I wonder if he had the optionin his contract as I would have presumed he would. I saw that too Weasel. A massive s**t on the pitch & Dan just jumped straight over it. Didn’t break stride.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 7:28 pm I was delighted when Dan James wasn't one of those that jumped s**t, I wonder if he had the optionin his contract as I would have presumed he would. Re: Dan James
bizarre not sure what happened there was meant to be jumped ship. Jumping sh*ts todays was probably a good description of how Dan managed to avoid injuries.

Thanks for clearing that up. Thought that was some across the pond slang that I hadn’t heard yet.

Nice little interview here with Danny Boy...

Re: Dan James
Anyone that works his tail off like Danny boy deserves some hardware
We've still got a third of the season to go, and while Jimmy has all but wrapped up the most improved player award, I think James would definitely earn honorable mention. **
** Rutter is my guy, but don't think we got to see enough of him last season to accurately judge how much he's improved.

Re: Dan James
Pleased for Dan, he got his down & worked hard on his game, he's had a brilliant season.
Unlucky to become injured when he was flying but, it has benefited us, enabling Willy game time & rediscover his old form.
Now we have two wingers contributing offensively & defensively down the right.

Another added benefit is Archie's development as a RB. With both Dan and Willy firing on all cylinders, Archie's getting the chance to play with two strong wingers with very different styles of play and varied skill sets.

Re: Dan James
Dan was only on the pitch for fifteen minutes, replacing the excellent Gnonto.
His immediate impact is what we want to see from a substitute.
Have we found ourselves a free-kick specialist?
5 excellent moments of play
His run at the Pilgrims defence & should have gained a penalty when he was brought down in the box. (reminded me of the one not given in the 1-1 draw at Newcastle two/three seasons ago).
Wonderful taken free-kick curling onto the crossbar. Unlucky not to make it 0-3.
No poor moments of play

Re: Dan James
How good was Dan James today in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch.
Chased a pass no other player would have got close & delivered a lovely cross to Bamford, only for Paddy's shot to be blocked by Tanganga.
Showed such calmness with his goal as he delayed & feigned the keeper before slotting home for the second goal.
DJ's blistering shot that came back off the post, I thought it was in as soon as he struck the ball.
12 goals & 8 assists for our underrated winger.

Re: Dan James
Fantastic that whilst Gnonto is in blistering form Dan James is too. If we can get Summerville back firing and Gnonto & James both carry on their form we might just have a chance of getting up. Imagine if Rutter found his shooting boots too.1964white wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:59 pm How good was Dan James today in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch.

So glad that Marsch didn't manage to force him out of the door permanently.
