Shows what a great job David Moyes, MB and Brendan Rodgers are doing.
Chris Wilder and Steve Bruce doing very poor jobs.

Re: Squad cost table
He is, pretty good team West Ham have managed to build really.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 10:07 pm I thought West Ham were on their knees at the start of the season, Moyes doing a great job!
Good recruitment.
Nuno at Wolves doing a poor job to. Maybe his negative style combined with the fact he loses key players whenever Mendes wants has caught up with them?

Re: Squad cost table
I think it's really interesting that the cost standings are generally very similar to the actual standings. (With a few exceptions of course).
Re: Squad cost table
And Rodrigo accounts for 25% of the cost of our squad.
Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

Re: Squad cost table
It’s interesting that 11 teams are within 2 places of where they are expected to be according to the spending table. It just goes to show that for most Managers their own influence/tactics etc. on their team’s expected league position is quite minimal and that they are very reliant on the money available to them to determine how high in the league they can get.
A few exceptions to the rule of course, as you’d expect, including our very own genius of a Manager, as we’ve come to expect!

Re: Squad cost table
Take away Rodrigo and Llorente and we're the lowest in the league.
Koch and Llorente have barely played for us too, players like forshaw and Costa too!

Re: Squad cost table
Just like to remind myself that despite the disappointment of today except for West Ham we are the most over performing side in the league.
17th most expensive squad in 10th and that is exceptional given our injury problems.

Re: Squad cost table
How are we doing with actual money on the pitch, so take off what? 50M?
"Never debate an idiot, they'll only drag you down to their level and they have the advantage of experience"
Re: Squad cost table
£40mil for Koch and Rodrigo i suppose for today?
But to get an accurate representation you would have to go through each clubs individual player stats for minutes played, see if it is possible to build a side then look for the prices of those players and place it on a table.
Take ages to do after every game.
I suspect it wouldn't make much difference?
All that being said i do happen to know where we placed for points gained per £ spent.
We were 2nd before this game behind Burnley.

Re: Squad cost table
Thomas Tuchel has managed to improve the fortunes of Chelsea, however they are still underachieving.
Liverpool have got worse
Spurs have got worse.
Arsenal have improved a bit but are still performing poorly.
Southampton have got worse.
Villa are now officially underperforming.
Fulham are actually performing better than the squad spend while WBA and Blades are not.
Steve Bruce is doing the worst job according to squad spending.
And same as the first post David Moyes, Marcelo Bielsa and Brendan Rodgers are the best performing coaches.

Re: Squad cost table
It doesnt say a great deal for the quality of coaches in England that the vast majority are below or exactly at where they should be on the Prem table (14 out of 20).
Palace are only 1 place higher.
Fulham are only 2 places higher.
Burnley are 3 places higher.
3 English managers doing better jobs than expected but in the case of Palace its minimal.
Fulham's 2 places higher dont really say much for Parker if they get relegated because that would be a failure in his primary objective.
Really only Dyche can join the holy trinity of Moyes, Bielsa and Rodgers and say he is doing a good job.
The issue is the style Dyche uses is mind numbingly awful, defensive, ten men behind the ball and then hoof it forward and hope for the best.
Its League 2 football at best, doesnt even try to be entertaining.
And evidence by how he treated Bamford, Dyche isnt a nice man.

Re: Squad cost table
In days gone by you could look at the likes of Dyche, Pulis etc and say well they are doing the best with what they have and whilst the style isn't pretty at least they are keeping their team in the premiership. Then Bielsa came along and showed that you could take a team that most fans, and some managers, had written off as being not much good and not only get them performing better but playing great football. If Bielsa can do it with a team that he inherited then I don't think any manager any more can justify playing sh*te football by saying they are doing the best with the players at their disposal.Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:07 pm Really only Dyche can join the holy trinity of Moyes, Bielsa and Rodgers and say he is doing a good job.

Re: Squad cost table
Just like to give this a nudge after games like today.
We are still one of a select group of teams vastly outperforming their cost table position.
We are still a largely Championship team whose biggest strength is the style not a bunch of supremely talented individuals.
We definitely need more quality.
We definitely need to see 3 or 4 of the Championship winners phased out of the starting 11 next season and more quality added.
But we are vastly overperforming this season and we should be proud of that despite understandable frustrations like today.
