I think players like Shackleton have their uses. It almost feels like academy players have to be world beaters or they get moved on. Anyone know the fee involved? Can't see it being higher than £2m, in which case it's a huge mistake.
Klich, Ayling and Forshaw are all out of contract in the summer. I'd let them all go personally, free up some wages.
The senior players being out of contract is what I was referring to in them having little resale value. Probably more value in keeping them around and running down their contracts than trying to sell or loan them.
Agree on Shackleton. Always liked him. You could see his energy bring something to Jesse's midfield. And he's got the advantage of being able to cover at right back. I keep hearing that Millwall have the option to buy. But Marsch did say we were going to watch his development when he left. So, who knows.

Roberts hooked on 75 for QPR
The flowers of common sense do not grow in everyone's garden
Cresswell and Shackleton both started Millwall’s fifth defeat in seven matches as Gary Rowett’s side were beaten 2-1 at Blackburn Rovers. Cresswell was taken off with just over 20 minutes to play, while Shackleton played the full 90.
Ian Poveda
Another defeat for one of Leeds’ loanees was for Poveda at Blackpool, who started their 1-0 home loss against in-form Norwich City.
Tyler Roberts
It was a much more successful weekend for Roberts, though, who scored his first Championship goal for QPR. He netted Rangers’ second in an impressive 2-1 win at Bristol City.
Dan James
James was handed his first start for Fulham at the weekend but could do little as Marco Silva’s side were reduced to 10 men after just eight minutes. They went onto lose 4-1 at home to Newcastle United.
Helder Costa
On-loan winger Costa did not feature at the weekend for Al-Ittihad as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Al-Nassr.
Lewis Bate
Bate was handed his third Oxford United start in four matches as he played just over an hour in the 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic.
Jack Jenkins
For the sixth league match in a row, Jenkins was once again an unused substitute for Salford City in the 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town. He is yet to play a single minute of League Two action since his summer move.
Stuart McKinstry
McKinstry played the final 21 minutes as Motherwell fell to a 2-1 defeat at Celtic. The young Scotsman is still awaiting his first start since returning on loan to the club.
Mateusz Bogusz
Bogusz made his first appearance since suffering a serious knee injury in January, coming off the bench to play 10 minutes in UD Ibiza’s 3-2 win over Lugo.

A mixed bag
Cresswell, Shacjleton, Bate, Roberts, Poveda all for starts
Nice to see Bogusz is back
Disappointing to see McKinstry, Jenkins, Costa all struggling in lower leagues. Bate coming off on 60 not great either.
Warm reviews for Tyler. Some are too quick to knock him. But he's showing he can excel at this level. Should be able to do a job at lower end premier league clubs

Poor weekend - Bate, Jenkins didn't get off bench. McKinstry got 5 minutes. Tyler had a good run out though in another QPR win.
As I keep banging on about the standard of our kids, if they can't make it into EFL first-teams, how are they going to cope with the level of the Premier League?

There's a fine line here. At times, Lewis Bate looked a decent player for the first team last season. And now he's not setting the world alight in L1.
Jamie Shackleton has had two or three fantastic moments. The Villa game 2 years ago, he was excellent. Seeing him on the bench today ws largely disappointing, but he has been mostly starting for Millwall.
Cresswell has started most of Millwall's games too. Disappointing to see him out of favour lately. He showed a few times last year that he can hack it in the PL. But he just needs more game time.
All 3 are a acase of trying to get consistent first team football to advance their careers. Shackleton and Cresswell have been mostly positive. Bate, mostly disappointing. They all showed they can do a job last season (2 seasons ago for Shacks). Hope to see more positive signs for them through the rest of this season.

Finding snippets of their best bits of play is like watching one of those clips of a player we are touted with on YouTube.
Players have to possess certain qualities & consistency to excel in the Premier League.
A mixed bag, Aye, a mixed bag of shite, who bought them, some i believe were £millions ?
Not dependent on Google, the www or 'stats' - Just a guy that puts his eyes to full use on the beautiful game ...That Ayling goal and "You couldn't script it " - Dirty Leeds B@stard.
Must dash.

Bate got injured on Tues in the JPT, which is why he wasn't involved yesterday.
The Jenkins move was ridiculous. Scored in JPT but hasn't played a second in League 2. I just feel sorry for the lad. The last 3 seasons have been a real waste. He could have been on loan in the Championship by now, but now it looks like he has no future.

We're not talking about a YouTube snippet when you watch Shackleton's 60-70 minutes against Villa 2 years ago. He spent more time playing at RB than his preferred No. 8. Then he had a long injury lay off. Sometimes football is a matter of sliding doors. You have to be available when the opportunity arises. When you're not, it's a different story. I believe Shacks will make it back to the premier league. Heck, he probably would have offered us a whole lot more off the bench this season than Forshaw.
I only think Cresswell has to gain some experience - work on his mental and tactical side of the game - he's got all the necessary skill and physical attributes to be a quality premier league CB. He's good enough to be our 4th choice this season - although we have 4 CB's and is better spending his time out on loan. I'd say his loan has been 75% positive so far and a step in the right direction.

Good to hear (although not the injury) on Bate. He should be a quality player in future. I do think he has temperamental issues though that may be holding him back. Hopefully he grows out of that.
Agree on Jenkins. Last season was a step backwards for him. Hope he finds a way to turn it around.

I agree. We could certainly do with his energetic bursts from midfield. I don't know why we loaned him out or agreed a permanent option. I just think he was unfairly lumbered in with the likes of Roberts and Poveda.
