I remember Phil Hay was astonished that we never made a bid for Eze after we were promoted. At the time Orta was purely fixated in buying Spanish as he felt the UK market was over priced. Eze cost Palace 25 million. I won’t make the obvious comparison.
The only downside to Eze he tends to get injured regularly. But he is a game changer. What he did to Cooper was class. The point is this - if Coops would have let him get a first time shot away by not trying to close him down immediately he would have been criticised. What Eze did was pure class and very few defenders would have avoided falling for that feint.

At the time I said on here that we made an error not trying to get Tarkowski and or Coady. I really believe currently we would have at least 6 more points if we'd done that.

You’re right bud, and sadly pointless is the salient factor.

Is it just me or does anyone else scream at the telly in frustration when we try to pass the ball to Paddy on the 6-yard line from the edge of the box when there’s a shot on? Jack did it in the first two minutes today.

I think many of our problems in front of goal stem from not shooting often enough, especially from distance, and trying to walk the ball in against big, physical and canny defenders.

Palace been in the premier league a few years longer than us. Generated more income in recent seasons and able to spend substantially more in the market than we have.

On LS11 Opposition View the Palace podcaster was saying that their signings have been much more focused this season. Before it was a bit more of a scattered approach. Now they identify a couple of key positions and make signings accordingly. We're still very much in the scattered phase - our whole championship squad needs to improve but we can only do things incrementally. In that regard, we're a few years behind where Palace are now in terms of squad assessment and transfer business.

Like I said before though. We can't take on wages of Coady or Tarkowski if nobody is willing to take on our current CB's. We're not Everton. We can't afford to carry 5 first team CB's. We looked at our squad preseason and decided it was much more important to sign the players in positions we did. Defence could be improved, but we can't afford to do everything at once.

Even free defenders cost a lot of money in wages and signing bonuses.

We have more quality than that. Aaronson. What a run for the goal. How many players tried to hack him down. We were easily the equal of Palace. This was no Brentford s**t show, silly errors cost us the game

I was cursing Paddy when he missed that chance & also he made a poor pass with two players in their own when we caught Palace on the break. Rodrigo made a similar error. Far too much cursing from me with all the simple errors we were making in the second-half. We create our own downfall.

Maybe worth putting Struijk in at CB, where he should have been since the season started. Oh yeah I forgot we don't have a left back

I'd put Hjelde at CB, and keep Cooper and Llorente well away from it.
