Our style of play doesn't do our defenders (or goalie) too many favours. But we should be a lot better positionally set up at the back. And we should commit fewer errors. I'd definitely like to see the back line strengthened.
I'll highlight our good play & pick the bones out of our defensive fiasco after I've watch a replay of the match tomorrow.

Leeds1000 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 7:35 pm We were unlucky down at Spurs the way the goals went in. We rode our luck at Liverpool and Bournemouth could have been out of sight. Are we all just realising that the defence is still really poor even tho we now don't go mfm. We used to protect the defence somewhat under Bielsa because the possession state were normally in our favour we just never took our chances. I don't think Creswell is the answer yet, sure he will be a asset in both boxes but getting turned for pace i don't remember him being the quickest.

I'm not sure what else Marsch can do at the minute tbh. We have got the sum of 2 decent CM and Roca gets hooked because he's supposedly only fit enough for 75mins most of the time. He tried to sure the defence up by bringing Ayling on (which sounds like a good idea) it didn't work. People say we should learn to control games more.... What tactics and personnel do you think would work maybe ..Firpo? Llorente? Klich? Sure i think Marsch could play some sort of 4-5-1and try and stifle teams. But looking at the Bench its back to slim pickings for me. Finding the right balance between Attack and Defence whilst playing entertaining footy is the hardest job in football, especially for a team with our budget and squad depth.

We have 2 raw kids on the wings who i sure will still be learning the defencive side of things for a few years to come yet. Buckle you seatbelts guys i think we are in for another white knuckle ride like most other teams in this league i'm not sure why people think we should we be any different.
More ups & downs to come as I commented after the Bournemouth game,1000.

Ok. Was out for the day in sunny Donny so just catching up. I have seen what happened and read hundreds of comments on various platforms. I'm beginning to doubt you are even a Leeds fan with these kind of comments! Meslier was shoved into the back of the net and then sat on before Kane scored. It should not have been a goal. Your comments are ridiculous

Seen it back since and fair enough.

I got it wrong on that one.

He was unlucky this time.

But definitely isn't a commanding keeper in general.

Keepers get more protection than ever and he is still Mr flappy..

We might not be in the premier league if we'd kept Pontus. All maybe's. I like the place we're at now better than the place we were at when we sold him.
I'm 100% sure we would have been promoted with Pontus instead of Ben White. And he would have chipped in with a few goals too. White was excellent, but so was Pontus.

Charlton had a bit of swagger and arrogance about him, however Revie put the club before personality issues. And he was close to the players instead of having a schoolmasterish, distant, stern attitude. Bielsa reminded me of Capello, and I wasn't keen on him.

I don't know that he was not a team player. But certainly coming back late from international duty late twice was never going to wash with Bielsa. Weak managers tolerate indiscipline. I would expect Marsch would be similarly strong if a player decides to take an extended break after the WC.

We probably went over this a few years ago. Born in Hexthorpe. Later years in Balby. Fond memories of Hyde Park where my grandparents lived.

Hard to believe. I live in a country now where old businesses are razed to the ground and replaced by new ones every 5 years. Glad the mucky duck is still around and looking forward to a pint and a game of pool there again some day

Right my take & a few issues after watching the whole game this morning, was really difficult to judge on Saturday as the stream was horrible & I had to watch the match without any commentary, it was that bad.

We certainly know how to shoot ourselves in the foot :(

Firstly, why was Gnonto subbed? Some really nice touches & he rarely gave the ball away. Greenwood was less efficient as his replacement & was one of our players caught napping for their third goal.

Even worse, why take Roca off whom was controlling our midfield brilliantly, I can't recall Marc losing possession, all his passes were cute & sweet, his pass for Rodrigo's 2nd goal was delghtful. We totally lost the midfield in the last ten minutes after his departure, After Rodrigo he was arguably the MOTM.

Koch was brilliant at the back until he stuck a leg out on Kulusevski rather than just guide him onto the goal-line.

Coops did some good things, my god when he goes wrong he is bad, jogging & ambling about marking fresh air, made a horrible defensive header into the path of Bentancur for one of his goals.

Pascal & Aaronson went to sleep from a throw-in for one of their goals. Our Big Pirate went napping on a couple of occasions.

Adams also went napping twice standing still marking fresh air allowing Baentacur & Davies to shoot & score with no pressing whatsoever. Tyler also committed five dreadful fouls & can have no argument about his dismissal

Kristensen played well, a headed assist for Rodrigo's first goal.

Attacking-wise Rodrigo, Aaronson & Summervile were superb.

Similar thoughts on Gmonto. He had his best period 10 minutes before half time. The problem with taking him off sp early was that we had no experienced attacking or midfield options on the bench. That really handicapped us later in the game.

Heard a few say that we needed fresh legs in the midfield rather than 5 at the back. Doing the latter just invited pressure. But, again, we were light on alternatives. Roca was having a better game than Adams. And hadn't been booked. So probably could have subbed TA instead. In the end though a lot of it just came down to not having experienced depth on the bench. And as ever, not wanting to give Gelhardt more than 5 minutes.
