Leeds weighing up bid for World Cup star

Leeds United are understood to be weighing up a bid to bring Morrocan World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi to Elland Road in January. The 22 year old box to box midfielder applies his trade with Ligue 1 strugglers Angers, who currently sit bottom of the French top flight.

During a recent interview, Angers Chairman Said Chabane said he was open to the idea of selling his star midfielder, which is not surprising when media reports are suggesting he could fetch £40m; a vast difference to his £3m valuation on 'Transfermarkt".

Building a squad for the future is important, but surely the aim of the game is to bring players over on the cheap, and nurture them, not buy them at hugely inflated prices.





Cunha would break Leeds salary structure

Leeds will have to break their wage structure if they want to bring Matheus Cunha to Elland Road next month. The misfiring forward is set to depart the Metropolitano Stadium next month after only 16 months.
He joined from Hertha Berlin for a fee of £23m in the Summer of 2021. In 56 appearances, the Brazilian has netted just nine times (one goal every seven games), yet Atlético are demanding £26m, should they sell him next month.

Cunha is not short of admirers. Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wolves have also been linked with the 23yo, whose wage demands are believed to be in the region of £84,000 a week, over £350,000 a month. Perhaps Leeds should bubble wrap Bamford, and put him in the shop window?





Leeds continue to chase Gakpo

According to the Mirror, Leeds remain locked in talks with Cody Gakpo's representatives regarding an unlikely move to Elland Road this month. The 23yo came close to joining Leeds after Victor Orta staged an audacious, last minute bid to capture the Dutch Superstar. Unfortunately, the deal collapsed.

18 goals, 15 assists and a successful World Cup later, Leeds still believe they are still in the running to sign him. Perhaps if they hadn't sat on their laurels after the 20/21 season, they'd have a chance. Let's hope they don't leave it too late to sign an alternative.

Ounahi looks a player, or certainly did during the WC, but we're not paying that sort of money for him. As for Cunha and Gakpo, never going to happen. Cunha looks a busted flush and Gakpo is destined for one the big hitters.

It all depends on the price regarding Ounahi. If we could get him for around 10m, he's well worth the risk. He did look very good in the World Cup, but as Mountain says, others have and then failed miserably.

Gakpo is off to Manure so time to move on. There's no way he is joining a side sitting just outside the relegation zone.

Cunha considering his form needs to be cheaper to buy and should be expecting lower wages but guess football dosnt work like that - rather have Chris wood on loan for rest of season.

Ounahi Like others have said, don’t buy after a major tournament there’s a host of things that can make players look better than they are, the occasion and adrenaline it brings, tactics, pride etc

Too late for gakpo he predominantly plays on the left and we have gnonto and Summerville who have come through since our summer interest both of whom have excelled recently.

Think it’s the time of year it’s been played but as much as I enjoyed it I’m glad the world cups done and the proper football can come back - as good as the final was give me the 2-1 over Liverpool or the 4-3 over Bournemouth any day of the week!

The frenzy has been increased 10 fold as a result of the WC. The speculation will continue to grow.

What made me laugh was a report on BBC sport gossip. Anton Ferdinand claims Alan Pardew prevented him signing for Barcelona.

I mentioned last week I'd like to see Ounahi and Aaronsen tearing it up in midfield, somehow I think it's another boat we've missed, as has been said about WC buys , Brolin ??
Cunha we can't afford and Gapko has no interest in us now, another ship sails on down the river Aire.
I'd like to see Perkins and Josep given more minutes and not rely on Bamford coming back to hit 15 + goals
Would also like to see more of Gyabi and Gnonto, if they shine and Sinisterra comes back OK ,the future could be rosy

Any interest by us in Ounahi is probably just click bate but if there is any truth in it, it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise. As Ken says (3rd time in history!), our scouting system should be identifying players like this prior to them having a storming tournament and increasing their value 13 fold, at our financial level it’s no good being wise after the event.

Gakpo has shown his colours previously, why would we persist in trying to get someone who has already insulted us by turning us down?

Orta has already dismissed Azzedine Ounahi, said he has been watching him for years and runs more for Morocco.

Basically stats will mean he won't be considered.

Cunha has joined Wolves.

We aren't getting Gakpo.

The owners will be willing to chance their arm again this window thus we won’t be signing anyone, maybe a u21 player on deadline day just to keep the fans sweet. It’s ridiculously competitive at the bottom this season, wolves, Everton, forest and West Ham all likely to improve, not so sure about us though, we are terrible against the worst clubs.
