Ok thanks for clarifying. I didn't actually see the match.A Tourist wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:30 pm and they do pass it to him. He receives the ball at 11:46, so literally 3 seconds later they have gone wide. His pass to Harrison in plenty of space is overhit despite only being 10 ft away, Brentford fails to play out, and we have a freekick at the edge of the box by 11:53. So, within 10 seconds, we get the width, #### up an easy ball, win it back, and then generate one of our better chances of the day. Nutshell.
Ayling and Struijk's final ball was terrible all day long.

Of course you can otherwise every team would play that way against the Man Citys, Barcelonas etc and draw 0-0. That is why width and overloads is key as it stretches them and makes gaps appear. Obviously, like you said, there is a risk which is why the big teams struggle against them but at home we surely have to be a bit braver.Leeds1000 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 4:48 pm You can't drag a team out of position who are not willing to go beyond the half way line. The only way do do that is if they try and win the game and commit men forward which they didn't. They just hoofed the ball up to Toni and bypassed their midfield then set-up again ready for a Leeds attack when it inevitable broke down. You can see why the big teams have struggled against them. The other good part to our game today was not giving away the petty freekicks that we normally do so they could score from a set-piece which i believe they are good at.
I found Brentford boring to watch. I have said already Dyche used to get slated for that.

DDB220... chemistry and cohesion? He's been here 12 months and has had a full close season plus many weeks of breaks to get his point across but it's still the same as it was prior to the world cup. Can chemistry and cohesion even matter given the shite way he wants to play ? Thread it through the middle and hope for a lucky ricochet, that's his bloody team talk probably. He's clueless and most people know it and I for one can't wait to see the back of him.

Well it's interesting, because Graham got a lot of stick for grinding out a series of uninspiring 0-0 draws when he took over. However, it was the start of the turnaround which eventually led to the club challenging for the PL title under O'Leary. Graham got the defensive side sorted first though.Prisoner37 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:30 pm Harrison has got some stick today. Undeserved in my opinion, as when he got the ball he basically passed it to the penalty spot, as I assume he has been told to do. With three CDs it's just not going to work.
The main thing to take from today is the solid defending. Build from the back, as George Graham would say.

Aaronson gets a lot of stick, but I like the fact he never hides. He always wants the ball, just needs to look after it better. But he is confident and I have little doubt he will come good.

No you are wrong. We had 16 from 18 then beat Burnley to go to 19 from 19. We had scored 21, conceded 37.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:17 pm Yeah realised after I'd done from 18 games
No actually I'm right
Bielsa had 16 from 19

Because that's the reality of our position CJay. I'm not sure why you're thinking we should be challenging for the top 6 or anything. Our fans rave over Brighton, yet they finished 17th, 15th and 16th in back to back seasons. Things will just take time.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:03 pm And when do you draw the line?
2 wins in 16 Premier league matches.
Villa, completely out of form West Ham, newly promoted Fulham, Villa (under Gerrard who was sacked), Palace, Everton.
No wins.
We are 2 points better off than last season, 2.
Last season we'd be 17th.
Season before 17th
Season before 18th
We are borderline for relegation.
36 points is the average needed for survival, we have a ppg average of 36 points over a season.
It isn't just this result, it's the season as a whole and how he still talks like it isn't his fault that is winding me up now.
Managers implement improvements immediately regularly
He is still banging on about work in progress

Re: Leeds Utd v Brentford Match Thread - Wober starts in place of Cooper
The concern there was that our tactics were new at the start of the season so teams hadn't had time to work out how to play against us. To some degree Southampton, in the last 20-30 minutes against us, showed the rest of the division how to exploit our weaknesses. Chelsea played us after beating Spurs so their confidence was high and they probably underestimated us a little and got caught cold. Since then not much to write home about. Little patches in games before opposition managers made changes, a key match the Crystal Palace one where we dominated early and were a goal up before they made tactical changes and bossed the match. Our 2 wins since those early days were the fantastic win v Liverpool (when they gifted Rodrigo a goal in a sequence of play reminiscent to Bielsa letting Villa score) and the 4-3 win v Bournemouth where we were absolutely ripped apart for nearly an hour.BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:28 pm You don't need to cherry pick samples to make your point. It doesn't fill me with confidence. I would have been more confident if we'd had an awful start to the season and then improved since, rather than having a good start and then being sh*te since. Last year it took us 9 matches to get 7 points, this season 3 matches. So thinking back to how awful we were last year we are doing worse and over the last 16 games a lot worse.

Good lord Cjay if only everyone was able to see the facts as clearly as you did when I post them they would understand exactly why you and I are so concerned. It would save me a lot of time too trying to convince people who are blind to the actual facts I use to back up my arguments.

I understand examining trends. And it's pretty common use a five game sample when looking at current form. Your point was to examine the season. Not current form. Therefore you didn't need to cherry pick the sample.

Most teams do... but we are talking the best players and managers on the planet and still sometimes they can't find a way thru. When you come up against a 5-3-2 all you have to do defensively is follow the ball in numbers to whichever side the uses the overlap. Which happened today with willy. I do feel we should shoot from outside the box more to give teams like Brentford a bit more to think about.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:34 pm Of course you can otherwise every team would play that way against the Man Citys, Barcelonas etc and draw 0-0. It wasn't. I remember us doing similar several times where we were seemingly getting in each other's way.

It's always good to have someone who can rifle in decent shots from distance, stops you being able to defend really deep.Leeds1000 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:54 pm Most teams do... but we are talking the best players and managers on the planet and still sometimes they can't find a way thru. It really isn't.
But the results aren't good enough.
No manager with those results deserves to not be sacked.
It's as simple as that
