CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 8:24 pm It's just that you make it sound as though it's the first time this has happened in recent seasons. Use a pressing style, and there's always the risk that your FBs will get caught high and out of position- it happens to Liverpool. This means that you need the right kind of FB to play a pressing game - which we tend not to have. Yet you make it sound like it's all down to Jesse's ' system ' even though he now seems to be going 4-3-3 for the foreseeable future.
Seems peculiar to pick on Cjay when he includes in his reasoning that Ayling is a bomb scare. Surely he is more likely to have formed that opinion from the huge amount of games Ayling played under Bielsa rather than the handful of matches he has played under Marsch. If anything it would seem more of a criticism of the former manager than the current one. So f*ck you Cjay stop picking on Bielsa :)

As you say any side that plays a pressing style risks getting caught out, even happens to Liverpool and Man City.

But what makes Jesse different is his attitude to possession and the fact that our problems aren't new to Marsch.

Everything is rushed.

If he allowed the players more time to take care of the ball then this may not happen so often (but he is obsessed with rushing forward).

He also plays players who are slow at full back which makes no sense, can't blame Orta really because he did the same at Leipzig and was criticised for it.

We're we experiencing problems Marsch had never come across I'd give him more leeway

But we aren't, his criticisms here are basically identical to Leipzig, articles on it so not making it up.

Which to me does suggest he is a major part of the problem.

Bielsa had issues to of course (all be it abandoning the centre of the pitch was a bigger one).

But Marsch has had the same criticism aimed at him at 2 separate clubs.

And I think his attitude to possession is a large part of it

Something RB Leipzig full back Angelino agreed with.

It’s a big difference in terms of playing style. With Tedesco we enjoy football more because we play the way we like it again,” said the 25-year-old in an interview sports1.

Under Tedesco, who replaced the American Marsch, who was only signed in the summer, at the beginning of December, Leipzig “still plays aggressively, quickly forward, with pressing – but also with the ball, with a lot of control,” emphasized Angelino: “Not like that anymore in basketball, where it’s always up and down.

It's a failure to recognise the huge differences between playing for Leeds United in the Premier League and RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

And how the same style can have distinct differences caused by the quality of the opponent.

That is a scouting issue maybe even a naivety issue of both Marsch and Orta.

I don't blame Kristensen.

Where have I defended Bielsa?

I really wish people like you and others would stop using one to defend the other.

They can both have been crap at times . . . . .
Sadly a fair few posters throw the word Bielsa into any criticism of Marsch as some way to defend everything Marsch does.

I would say 90% of the time when I bring MB up it is in defence of him after some numpty has besically sl*gged him off with no facts or stats to back up their argument.

Ok, interesting observations Cjay. I think the Rangnick reasoning behind promoting minimal possession is that firstly too much possession slows the tempo, and secondly the longer you hold possession then the more likely you are to eventually lose it !

Rangnick is like Bielsa

An innovative thinker and highly influential man.

But his style has been adapted by better coaches.

Marsch has failed to do that.

Tough choice tbh, neither of them deliver good final balls consistently.but Ayling currently shades it because I have seen more of him and I know he has the ability to produce something special, despite the randomness of the occurrence.

We all know our lack of pace at the back is a flaw in this system. Unfortunately we won’t be signing Hakima anytime soon.

Was there a poll on LB and Firpo won ??????????
