Something to build on for Sam
Thankfully Haaland left his shooting boots at home. Could have been 6.

“Without a huge amount of knowledge, barring that from the staff that was already here, we knew we would have to make five subs today. It was disappointing that one of our subs [Pascal Struijk] gave the penalty away.”
Don’t believe it was from the 3 times I’ve seen it

Citeh do press well without the ball, rarely allowing us any space to play our game.
Also, when the 50/50 balls dropped into open space, they were far more athletic & quicker than us to win those loose balls.

I agree. Very soft pen. I thought strujik got the ball first and then barely clipped foden. But he got ball first. In the states, when playing basketball we say "ball don't lie" when a cheap foul occurs and the free throws are missed. When Gundogan missed that penalty I said "Ball Don't lie!"Jaydog wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 4:40 pm “Without a huge amount of knowledge, barring that from the staff that was already here, we knew we would have to make five subs today. 100% ball first. And he doesn’t exactly clatter Foden who goes down like a sack of s**t.King Hennessy wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 4:45 pm I agree. Very soft pen. You’re right, justice was served. The ball knew Foden is a cheating twat.
What I like is the absolute bollocking Haaland & Gunderman get from Pep. He subs Gunda minutes later and doesn’t look at him in passing. If we’d got a draw he would have had a total meltdown

He goes left he can easily pick out a man in the box for a pass or cross, or nailing a curler. Force him right and man mark in the box. If everyone on the squad is on the same page with that, they won't get turned over. Allowing a man to get to his favored foot is nonsense in my opinion. He easily picked out Gundogan on that first goal because of it.
I think you are being too critical of Firpo.
And I know the received wisdom is to shepherd the player wide.
But
Watch the goals back and come tell me how Firpo was meant to put him onto his right foot.
Goal one he receives the ball and in one move cuts left and makes his pass. It is too late to do anything. All Fipo could do is lunge in and give away a pen.
Goal two Firpo has Haaland running in behind him and is overloaded.
Again what choice does he have but guide him into traffic?
Stopping those crosses was impossible. Mahrez has one of the best first touches in the game and also has a lot of goals with his right foot. He can play anywhere across the front.
But let's agree to differ.

Disappointingly I didn't see much hoofball today, except for the goal.

Finally I get a good stream. Thanks for the hes goal TV link.
Lots of pressure from titty, lots of possession and could have been 6. Before the game I concluded that to be beaten by a single goal would be excellent, so a big well done to Big Sam. Ridrigo took his chance well and beat the keeper convincingly and overall the defence were getting bodies in the way the whole match. Much, much better and definitely something to build upon for the visit of Newcastle.

All we asked for was a bit of fight and we got that. No doubt, in my mind, we'd have lost by a record score if Gracia was still there.

I believe the plan is to build up confidence for the West Ham/Spuds games and grab some points! We are at home next week against Newcastle. I expect nothing from the game points-wise but if we could play like we did agaiunst chelsea aerly doors, who knows? I stil think the best chance for points are out last 2 games...

100%
How does he go in to the Toon game now. Same?
They are arguably the most in form team atm.

Well he's got a week now, so the team should be in better spirits. It's too late though really. He should've been in after Marsch, or the Liverpool game at the latest.

Let’s put the goalkeeper situation into perspective. Robles did ok, when he fumbled a cross he got lucky. To suggest Meslier is the reason that we are where we are is complete nonsense. The games where he earned us points are quickly forgotten.
The score line is not a reflection of an outstanding goalkeeping performance - it is a flattering score line as Haaland had an off day.
We parked the bus for 90% of the game - we haven’t done that previously. This was more about defensive discipline and a good job by Rasmus on Haaland than a goalkeeper masterclass.
At home to Newcastle we will need to show more ambition otherwise we will get nothing.
Look at Roca’s positioning for both goals. That bloke hides on the pitch. He was deeper than the CB’s. McKennie and Forshaw were far more proactive in anticipating danger and trying to disrupt build up play. That is the least you expect from your midfield.

Didn't manage to see any of it, but the fact he's started Firpo has left me drained.
He can't have done his homework.
I suppose the result at 2-1 shows some encouragement, down to us ? Or down to Citeh strolling for Tuesday ?
I dunno.
