I posted this before. Did you watch it?Kennyb41 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 1:16 pm First of all you ALL know what my answer is, it's 100% correct and a given, and it's the moment we let Bert go, simple.
I could've chose any number of quotes but chose this one because of the highlighted bit.
First of all, I never doubted him for one second.
Did i wonder if we might go down? Yes i did if he didn't get his key players back.
As long as Bert stayed was i bothered if we were relegated ?...Yes i was, it's relegation innit and nobody wants that, but i know 100% in my heart and mind he would've stayed and brought us straight back up, but we needed to sack Clown A asap or even Bert was up against it, plus, he wouldn't have been relegated with his key players back.
It’s very endearing. Hey Marcelo give us a hug

I don't do Twatter Jay.
And when you've read all those articles folks you'll understand why i can't take anybody seriously that wanted to oust the great man, if you could not see what he was all about, if you could not see The Clown was the bigger problem, if you could not see Radz has no idea about football, if you could not see how he wanted to build us from the ground up from peanuts.
Then you simply shouldn't be watching the beautiful game, we will NEVER EVER again have it so good, he needed time not beheading.
No need.

Thanks for your insight on this Sara. So how does the cub break the thread?Anonymous wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 8:30 am Said elsewhere, but I think it's the financial potential of a club like Leeds which attracts the chancers. Smaller clubs like Brighton and Brentford seem to get owners who are content to build systematically. Leeds are probably seen more as a risky punt, with the potential for high short term rewards. It's the short-termism which kills us.
Imagine if we'd been sold after the first year back to owners who were content to build steadily on what we'd achieved, rather than persisting with Radrizzani and Orta's gambling on managers and players with an eye mainly on the pay off, rather than consolidating a system and a style, and building a balanced and capable squad.
Greed, stupidity and hubris, from people whose power and wealth is not matched by their intelligence. Marsh was a perfect fit for these people; an arrogant, deluded bullshitter with no real experience or ability.
We keep calling ourselves a "big club" - as you said relative to Brighton or Brentford. Let's be honest - in reality - we base this only on the Don Revie Years- 50 year ago. We haven't had a run of success since then - in my my mind anyway. We've had some highlights, and things to talk about (including the Bielsa years) - but nothing consistent over multiple seasons.
Maybe we need to accept - in this day and age - we're not "a big club" anymore. Doesn't change my loyalty in any way, but we somehow need to find a new formula. We lurch from one dud owner to the next. Good God - how did the King of Corn ever get ownership and control of this club (especially if we're a 'big club')? There is something wrong with the governance structure.
I've said this before - we will gauge the real intent of the 49'ers once we know whether we're staying up on going down. If they truly want to build the club for the long term, they will actually be quite OK with relegation. It creates financial opportunities. I've been in this situation before myself with mergers & acquisitions experience. If you want to build, you make the acquisition at a low point and then invest. If you want to own and then flip, you buy when things are good. If we go down and they don't proceed - well - we know their intentions.
Given the structure of our board, I fear we have very few people who have any concept of long-term build strategy. They're all opportunists - Quick Buck artists.
It may not be politically correct to say this but Newcastle will benefit from the Saudi investment because it's a small part of a big strategy (basically sport washing aka money laundering) - so there is relatively little day-to-day interference. We have to find owners who provide resources and get out of the way. Easier said than done.

The O'Leary years were more than highlights. Five consecutive years of finishing fifth or above. Back to back years of UEFA and Champions League semi's. Five strong years.
We are one of only 8 teams to have won the league in the last 36 years
Last English manager to win the league? Howard Wilkinson.
Our average attendance is 37,000 - restricted only by lack of stadium development. We have huge global appeal - USA TV picks us all the time
We are better than this and we deserve better than this

I think the club thought we were better then we were so I would say when we finished 9th first season. They thought they didn’t need to spend.

Re: When did it all go wrong?
What exactly constitutes a 'BIG' club?
Trophies won?
How rich they are?
The amount of Supporters and well known around the world?
For me its trophies and supporters. We've done rather well in both so for me, yes, we are a big club. Look at Spurs. When was the last time they won the title for example, or a trophy. Yet they are classed as a big club, only because of their monetary status.

Global fanbase etc is important.
Are we a big club?
In some ways.
But we are also perennial underachievers.
We aren't one of the top sides in England for trophies won.
Not even sure we make the top 10
Part of that is because we are a comparatively new club with some being formed decades before us
But also because we just seem to fail on the big stage more often than not.
We've been runner up 16 times.

It’s not an article, Kenny.
It’s a video of Bielsa at an U23 game. He clearly doesn’t know the cameras are on him. Just watch it. The ending is a classic.

Rumours that the 49ers have been in talks with Marcelo Bielsa.
I've no idea if there's any truth to it.

Take this with a large pinch of salt but some evidence that it’s a possibility with B365 only going 5/1
Again we’ve seen the carnage in these markets before so who knows as you say

Re: When did it all go wrong?
Probably no truth in it but it would make a lot of sense for the 49ers to do it as it would immediately make them very popular with a lot of fans (not the 'select' few who are blinded by the sh*te). They, the 49ers, can hardly not have noticed the support for Bielsa on the terraces and Americans know the valu eof good PR and getting fans on side.

Good pr
Probably why they don't bring up that it was the skint Arab Bank that originally got them involved here in 2014 . . . . .

Can you imagine. Its like building a house then going away for a few years only to come back and find its been demolished due to bad planning permission.
