Re: Sam Byram
It's looking like he will be part of the squad this season. Definitely useful as back up at left back. Might end up in midfield if we don't sign someone, although interestingly Farke has preferred Shackleton, Gray, and Gyabi.eastyorkshirewhite wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 1:56 pm looks like he is getting quite a fair bit of game talk.So might not be paper talk.

He has a medical boot on his foot.
Don’t know the correct name of them.

If we sign him do we think they will bother trying to big it up or just announce it with a simple tweet?
Knew his injury problems were bad but they make Forshaw look reliable.
In the 7.5 years since he left he has played 80 matches worth of minutes.
He's missed well over 100 matches through injury alone.
Credit to him for keep getting fit but thats Darren Anderton levels of injuries.

That said, he’s free, his wages will be reasonable (in football terms) as he has no bargaining power and he has a lot to prove. For me, at the money involved, I’d say he’s worth a punt.

But if we can't rely on Bamford then we certainly can't rely on Byram.
As a warm body on a pay as you play (is that still a thing) for 12 months I get it.
Anything more would be an unnecessary waste of money even a relatively low wage in Championship terms would likely run well into 6 figures.

Re: Sam Byram
The thing is we aren't relying on him, he is offering competition for places and squad depth rather than us signing him and having him as our first choice in a position. At present we have Ayling and Drameh on the right and Hjelde and Firpo as options on the left. We may well lose Drameh and Firpo before the window shuts. If we do lose either ot both of those 2 then at least we have a player that can cover either side if needed.Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 9:13 pm He's looked OK tbf to him.

Yes there is the risk that he could be injured when we are in a position where we might need him but he isn't injured at present. He isn't costing us a big fee and as we have sen with Firpo just because you pay over the odds for a player doesn't guarantee they won't be injury prone.

Vey sensible signing. Definitely good enough at this level, provides competition and cover, proven player at Elland Road and hasn't cost the earth.

Hopefully, I'll see you tomorrow, Kev.
I'll be down near the front of the kop next to the East Stand, prior to kick-off.

Actually it looks like we are atm and still just under a month to go
Ampadu, Darlow and Byram who will be a solid full back for us in this division are three excellent signings so far

Byram’s propensity for injuries is a concern. But as a free signing I do not see a downside. However, when he does pick up an injury those told you so (stating the obvious) dancing shoes will get some use from a few on here.
It is not just about competition it is having that experience in the dressing room, we have a lot of young players, old heads who have been there and done it pass on very useful pearls of wisdom and help the younger players grow.

No need for apologies OB, I think a lot of us feel the same pain, if it wasn't true it would be funny, but, this is a recurring theme sadly for us.Orange Box wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:00 am Every chance we’ll now recall Forshaw. Now that would be a ‘new’ sigh-ning to crow about.
Apologies, I’ve allowed my sarcasm side to rear it’s ugly head.
How long before Byram is injured alongside the others !! I really hope he has a long run in the team but his past tells a different tale, why we didn't go for Charlie Taylor is beyond me.
