1 day to go - Fingers crossed we keep what we have!

Post by 1964white »

I suspect the majority of us think we require several signings as not only is the first XI depleted, the back-up is lacking in depth, our whole squad is decimated.

Question is? How many signings will we actually make before the transfer window deadline?

To be honest, I haven't a scooby, the waiting is torture as the clock ticks down, especially as it's ten days since our last signing & progress appears extremely slow.

I think we need 3 additions before the window closes, a proper striker should be the priority.

Not a lot, Billy when you consider.

12 players loaned out/sold.
8 currently injured (3 of them crocked).
1 on strike, refusing to play.
2 of our other main players may leave, too.

4 players incoming so far (including a goalie)

We need at least a minimum of 4 signings to hit the ground running. A striker and creative midfielder being a main priority. It's a big ask considering how late we have left it. Looking ahead, a club of this stature really needs to develop a more robust scouting network globally.

An excellent post for once, make sure you stick it elsewhere.

Striker

5 for me.

And you could make a case for a right back as well and that we need 2 cm/dm players.

It's hard to see them doing enough in the time left.

A striker that's our lot I'm afraid, we all know we need more, deperately need more, but it just aint gonna happen.
We might not even get a striker either.

We've another unsettled summer next year when the futures have to be decided for all the arseholes coming back to ER. This will (should be)be in the minds of the yanks so they won't over commit to much this year imo. Can't see it myself but if we do go up some of them will stay which will bloat the club in terms of numbers. I can only see loans coming in until next summer when things will be clearer - ISH.

It's looking that way. This Paraag guy fronting the 49ers certainly talked a good game. Let's just see how it plays out.

Try not to be dissuaded on this forum, it's comical how it seems to piss some folk off. 👍

Don't forget though that in addition to the 4 signings we have made we have also seen the return of 6 players - Dan James, Poveda, Drameh, Cresswell, Gelhardt and Shackleton - and all 6 look at least decent enough to be part of the squad this season. We also have Archie Gray who has stepped up from the academy whereas he wasn't really in the plans last season.

So in reality even if it is 12 that have gone we are only 1 player short of the numbers we had in the first team squad last year.

For me I think 2 maybe 3 signings that would likely be starters. Possibly more if we also have to replace

We had six or seven wingers on the books at one time , this club seems obsessed by them , and I include Rutter in that lot cos he ain't a striker in a million years , can only see Costa if anybody wants him , James and Rutter been left by end of the season

6 minimum for me, so many holes in our first XI & on our bench.

Can't see six coming in, though.

When you have two goalkeepers sat on the bench like we did against West brom I think it shows that this squad is a tinsy winsy short in the strength in depth department 😄 not to mention the alarming lack of quality as well

Mentioned that point on another thread previously, Weasel

All seven are bench players apart from Archie Gray & Dan James too if we lose Sinisterra & Gnonto.

We still require a LB (move Byram to RB) two attacking midfielders, a bench back-up for Ampadu & two strikers, imo!

Ridiculous squad numbers at this level. I wouldn't be relying too much on Bamford, Cooper & Dallas this season, all endured horrific injuries over the last couple of seasons, plus their age is catching up with them.

Isnt just about warm bodies though is it, its about quality

And questions remain over people like James, Gelhardt, Shackleton, Poveda etc. 3 of those played in the Championship last season and were poor.

A decent cameo or game isn't enough.

And then the fitness of known injury prone players like Byram, Bamford, Cooper, Ayling (they will miss games through injury its inevitable)

And even then Farke has himself said we require signings in every area except goalkeeper so he can't be happy with 2 or 3 just based on his own words.

We don't have a 10 think we can all agree on that, and a striker as well so that's 2.

Farke himself has said we can't just rely on Ampadu so that's 3.

We also can't rely on Archie Gray at his age which is something Farke has also said so that's 4.

And then both full back positions, is anyone really comfortable with right back and left back? Farke clearly wasn't as he wanted Aarons.

If you look at the bench of teams we should be competitive with this season its miles off.

totally agree , you are one of the best posters on this board in my opinion, you talk a lot of sense , unlike many on here :-D

the debate over whether maradona or messi is acknowledged as the greatest in argentina , we will simply have to agree to disagree on
