Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 13th February) - Could Bamford face repercussions following antics

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 13th February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Could Bamford face repercussions following antics?

Elland Road journalist Adam Pope is concerned about repercussions following Patrick Bamford deliberate handball in Leeds 3-0 demolition of Rotherham at the weekend. The 30 year old is no stranger to controversy. He feigned getting struck in the head by Anwar El Ghazi, getting the Dutchman sent off during the infamous 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in 2019. Similarly, he was responsible for Asmir Begovic's red card during Leeds 1-0 win against QPR. Both red cards were later rescinded

His latest antics will annoy many officials, putting scrutiny on both himself, and his team mates. For someone believed to be one of the most intelligent men in football, his decision making is somewhat shocking! According to Popey...

Firstly, it’s hilarious because as we’re watching on the monitor for the restart he’s trying to say, having pointed to his elbow to the whole of the East Stand, he’s telling Andy Madley that it was above the t-shirt line. It’s one of those where he’s done it, he’s probably totally expecting it to be ruled out. It isn’t, and then add to that the club’s social media after the game, ‘They all count’.

[Daniel] Farke said it’s like one in 14 that’ve gone Leeds’ way. Overall, it should be ruled out, it’s a bad miss by the officials, clearly. I think revelling in it a little bit is not a good look, because that will come to bite Leeds somewhere later this season.

Time to rest Archie?

With 2886 minutes of game time under his belt already, Archie Gray has proved invaluable during his maiden season at Elland Road, but with Connor Roberts raring to go, is it time to give him a well deserved rest? His adaption to the right back role has been seamless. It's a role he adapts for King and Country, so we shouldn't have been too surprised that he has been able to plug the gap.

Archie is strongest in midfield, as proved by his stats. He is Leeds leading tackler in their entire squad, but has yet to really make his mark down the right wing, contributing just assist in 33 appearances for the Whites this season. In Roberts, Leeds have a specialist International wing-back that may offer that little bit more fluency down the right hand side. That's not to diminish Grays performances in any way.

Archie has been a revelation this season, but it's virtually impossible to come up with a sentence about him without mentioning he's only 17?

It takes a brave person to bet against Leeds at the moment

Writing his Sky Sports Championship predictions, former White turned pundit David Prutton will be backing Leeds all the way. The Hull born midfielder spent three years at Elland Road between 2007-2010, making 67 first team appearances. Swansea's shock win at Hull on Saturday will no doubt give them confidence, but Leeds are on a roll. It takes a brave person to bet against them at the moment, as Prutton explains...

Swansea plucked that win at Hull City pretty much out of nowhere on Saturday! They were in no kind of form at all, but that just shows what can happen in this league on any given day.

Can they replicate that performance against Leeds? It is a big ask as Daniel Farke’s side are steamrolling everyone right about now. It could be close down in South Wales, but I can’t back against United at this moment.

Morning all.
If it has repercusions, that's a sad state of affairs for so called professional officials to take, the old " I can't wait to get Leeds Utd on some little misdemeanor" I think bamford has had his fair share of goals disallowed and offsides for little things like pointing your'e finger, his mistake was his celebration on saturday, the tit.

Archie was always going to get his rest in and his minutes managed, we just had to wait to we got new personnel in.

Hopefully Prutton is right, we continue this great unbeaten winning run.

Morning EB et all,

I'd like to think the officials would go: well you know what, Leeds actually got one for a change this season, look at all the penalty shouts and offside goals given against them so over a season they all rule each other out, but then I think do the EFL and the Officials get together and decide to get some pay back and hopefully make our season fall apart so that they get the pleasure (and money) from Leeds staying in the Champo for another season, we'll see which in the next couple of games I'm sure.

Archie will need a rest at some point so if we have the opportunity without much or any detriment to the team then Farke should rest him, I also think Kamara's lack of pre-season seems to be catching up with him and he needs a break.

On this occasion can't disagree with Prutton, all be the odds are shite, against Swans put a £5 on and get £7.66 back, against Chelski it's only 5/1.

There you go. I posted that photo up last night after 64 put up the video in the Pitchside view of v Rotherham game thread
https://www.motforum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=45524

As per usual journalists etc not bothering to do full research. It p*sses me off when they run a story usuing their own assumptions rather than getting actual evidence to support their views (I often disagree with Cjay as an example but at least he uses stats etc to back up ihis arguments). The photos and videos prior to the 'all angles one' were clearly unable to show either way whether it touched his arm or not and far too much was made of Bamford's celebration. Bamford himself has supposedly said it may have hit him but it was above the supposed t-shirt line which means that Bamford himself knew it wasn't handball but as usual that doesn't sell the story. I would expect better from Pope and the boys.

Would suggest everyone watches the video as it shows Bemford getting the ball on the top of the chest to top of the shoulder area and then twisting his torso (hence the righ arm flies out) to generate the power to divert the ball towards goal. Around 5m 38 seconds in.

I thought at the time that is what happened. Bamford is sort of awkward in his posture anyway which would obviously exaggerate the movement. Fuss about nothing as per usual

There were repercussions in the same half, the referee didn’t give a penalty for us when Gnonto was definitely fouled in the area.
I thought it was more obvious than the one on Summerville.

Bamford goal. First time I've actually seen the footage and my honest opinion is that the ball hits above the t-shirt line, therefore it should be a goal.

I love the pitch side view, you get to see a better view of our players skills level.

It's also clear we also should have scored a bucket load more goals - efficiency please.

Raul scores a hand ball goal against Leeds and kisses his hand, not his elbow.

If Paddy was a contortionist he should have kissed his arse instead of his elbow, because of all the stick he has been taking.

He has now joined an elite group of players that form the "dubious goal club" and now can bask in the company of Maradona, Raul and Henry.

Anyway wow footballer might have cheated alert. What a bizarre idea in a game that generally revolves around deceiving the ref.

Personally I don't think the ref made a mistake regarding the Gnonto "pen" I have watched this many times and the actual foul on Gnonto was just outside the box, It was his momentum that carried him into the box to make it look like a pen. However it was a clear foul and the ref was certainly wrong not to issue a free kick and no way a goal kick, as was given. The level of refereeing in this division is p**s poor to say the least

Bamford has been the whipping boy for a lot of people in football and the media for years and it is largely inverted snobbery because he sounds a bit posh. There are a series of assumptions made because of his awkward posture and the fact that his goal celebrations are always a bit weird . To my mind there is no clear evidence of handball and having regard to the sequence of Firpo cross, deflection hitting Bamford and spinning into goal nobody can really know therefore the goal has to stand . Leam Richardson seized on an easy way to deflect from the uselessness of his own team. The photo from the stand seems to show their GK attempting to replicate Peltiers assault on Dan James and if I saw that coming I don't where my hands/elbows would be .As for the ludicrous ex referees pathetic clambering on the bandwagon it's all just more clickbait.

Bamfprd's goal was just that, a goal. I suspected as much during the game, but it's good to see the photographic evidence.

Thanks, Weasel.

On the Bamford goal, I can't believe how many Leeds "fans" are saying it's a handball when there are no conclusive pictures to say it was. Innocent until proven guilty? Especially our own player. Then the picture above, shows what I thought to the case - the shoulder area. Bamford pointed there to the ref when they came back for the kick off. So stop dramatizing this.

Resting Archie Gray? He didn't play home tie against Plymouth and only played 50 minutes in the replay.

I was at that game in Madrid sean, the locals were furious with Raul for cheating, absolutely furious.

Indeed. So many of our own fans, including those with media channels, judging just from the initial tv coverage and highlights which was simply from behind the action and his goal clebration. You can't tell anything conclusively from those angles and all you can see is the excessive arm movement from Bamford which was completely in the wrong direction if he was trying to make contact with the ball and generate enough power to divert it goalward.

The celebration looked silly which immediately suggested to me, and I posted about it previously, that it was not a celebration with him saying 'look I've just committed handball' but looked like some sort of aborted celebration, as if he was doing a full twirl but changed his mind halfway through - again though only he would know - as it would make no sense at all to try to advertise that he'd handballed it as even at that point the ref could have disallowed it - all he would have needed to do was to walk over to the inesman/woman, engage in conversation and then disallow it with the excues the linesman/woman had a better view.

You do realize the ball travelled on after that picture. And there's nothing in that picture to suggest it's touching him. There's a sky sports vid that shows the ball move after it hits the elbow, irrespective if it his the shoulder or not.

Now I don't give a s**t if Paddy got away with "handball" fair play to him and his confessional celebration. We deserved something going our way after a littany of poor decisions going against us this season. But I'm not going to deny it was almost certainly handball
