Was that when the play offs were a bit different Jammy? Where 2nd div played one of bottom from div 1? I remember us losing that Charlton game and Billy the manager. I knew the groundsman at ER and he always spoke well of Billy, if it was cold or raining Billy would make and then take the groundsmen cups of tea.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 4:59 pm Was a great semi final as well but it did look dangerously overcrowded in the Leppings Lane end so thank god a catastrophe was avoided that day, although sickeningly it did befall those poor Liverpool fans not long after.
Went to both legs of the play off final as well but missed the replay at St Andrews where we lost in ET.
Bremner was manager and it shows how close he was to being really successful but alas it just wasn't to be.

I was stationed in Hong Kong for that semi final. Me and mate decided to write a letter to the club wishing all the best. Got a personal reply from Billy. Well he signed it anyway.whiteswan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 7:05 pm Was that when the play offs were a bit different Jammy? Where 2nd div played one of bottom from div 1? Yes that’s correct as I believe Charlton finished 4th bottom in the old first division as it was that season. Of course this made it much tougher to go up through the playoffs which is maybe something to take into account when considering our terrible play off record.whiteswan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 7:05 pm Was that when the play offs were a bit different Jammy? For what it’s worth we should have an excellent chance this season should we not finish top 2 but let’s hope that’s something we don’t actually get to find out.

It used to be the Hilton Doubletree, not sure it’s still the same though.

We don't do well on St Patrick's day only 2 wins in 7 since 1990 including 1990. All games at ER which is strange. Only 1 win in 6 since beating West Ham 3-2 in 1990
Fowler, Deane and Chapman have scored braces on St Patrick's Day since 1990 though.

You’ll probably see the team coach, and a few fans knocking about if it’s still the same hotel.

We're going to have be on it from the word go. Millwall aint no mugs (fans aside) and they'll come with a solid game plan. The midfield is where they'll have plenty of bodies, that will be a key area today.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 9:04 pm Definitely concerned about Millwall's recent resurgence and having watched their win at Southampton I'd say with some justification. The other worry is we don't seem to have played that well during our last two matches but yet we've kept on winning, something which will surely change unless we can regain top form again.
So potentially a pivotal match at a time of the season when any slip up could be oh so costly. The team picks itself apart from Gnonto or Dan James on the right wing and have full trust in Farke to make the right call after having time this week to do all the necessary analysis of the opposition.

Re: Leeds Utd v Millwall Match Thread
No side have conceded fewer home second-tier goals than the 12 Leeds have allowed this term and they welcome a Millwall side who have hit the net only 36 times in 37 Championship matches.
The Lions have improved since Neil Harris returned to the club, but the Bermondsey boys have still hit only eight goals in their last 11 second-tier contests and they may struggle to make their mark at Elland Road.

I lifted that from the Racing Post Sport section who say we’ll win to nil. I think it’ll be a foul fest and the Millwall yobs will try and kick us off the park.AcrossThePondAsh wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:57 am You better not be jinxing us jinxy...and no more talk of fading![]()
Their only hope tbh.
I won’t mention fading again till April. That’s when fadey April starts.

We definitely need a "Fadey April" countdown clock--get on that mods.
I tend to agree. Would love our last game before the international break to include some actual football, but I foresee a bunch of grizzled Championship bastards knocking our young'uns about.

They have 83 yellows and surprisingly Ipswich have 85. Actually looking back over the last 3 or 4 seasons Millwall are definitely not a dirty side. Far from it but I’m not sure what Neil Harris record is like as a manager in terms of that kind of thing.

Yep agree with all of that.
When Millwall won at Southampton they packed their midfield and didn't worry too much about the wide areas. Hopefully Farke has come up with the necessary gameplan to get down the sides of them and keep doing so because it's likely they'll be a tough nut to crack and patience may very well be required.
