Heidi's Blog - Men v Boys as QPR thrash Leeds

Post by Lufcheidi »

QPR v Leeds United | 26th April 2024 | Loftus Road

I had an interview on BBC Radio Leeds before heading to Leeds to catch the coach to London. For those who have been following my husband’s terminal cancer journey, the bad news we received as a family yesterday that his main tumour had doubled in size meant my stomach churning was already in overdrive. We aren’t out of options just yet as there is still a glimmer of hope, but I’m not looking forward to what we are facing. I decided to buy some rescue pastilles on the way and then proceeded to leave them in the car. I’d already left my house keys at home and had to return for them, then our coach was hit by a car before we’d even left Leeds! The joys of being a Leeds United fan.

There isn’t much I can say today about the awful display we put on at the game. That’s one of the worst games I’ve seen us play in a long while and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. Ipswich will be favourites to go up automatically with Leicester as they still have three games left to play whereas we only have the last game against Southampton next week. On this display alone, do we really want to go up and watch games like this every week? In reality no, although we’d take promotion if it happened. QPR were up for it although I didn’t realise them beating us meant they were now safe from relegation because as I’ve said before, I take no notice on other teams as it is better to be out of sight out of mind.

It was a case of men versus boys today and we had no answers. We didn’t play for the shirt today and it was just a whimper from our players. We should have changed things long before we ended up three goals down as the game was beyond us then. Gelhardt made a difference when he came on, but it was too little too late. We did miss Bamford being able to hold the ball up front though as we had no one else able to do that.

As usual we’ve had a good day out spoilt by the 90 minutes lack of football in between. The highlight was talking to Malcolm MacDonald at our pub stop although I didn’t recognise him. He asked me who had scored four goals and I said I didn’t have a clue so asked who he was, but he wouldn’t tell me. Others on our coach worked it out though. After traffic issues both going and coming back, I don’t think we did too bad to get home for 4am. As fans, we have no control over what happens on the pitch but hearing that some of our fans had come to blows in the stand even before half time doesn’t bode well. Head butting our own supporters should never happen, however much you disagree with each other.

Having now launched the press release for a memorial for Billy Bremner in his hometown of Raploch, if you wish to contribute towards this, there is a donation button on the Scottish Football Supporters Association website. There is a link on the Leeds United website or Scottish FA website where the direct donation link can be found. Let’s get Billy the recognition he deserves north of the border.

See you next week, LUFC – Marching on Together!

Thanks Heidi, and best wishes are sent with this.

Presuming we're in the play offs, he needs to bring Cooper into the team, most fans won't understand this, but it needs to happen.

We are also gonna be v dependent on a fit PB.

If there's nothing left to play for in the last game, i'd be starting a whole load of the Joffys, Anthonys etc and seeing if any of them can show enough match fitness that they might be able to contribute or start in the play offs.

But i wouldn't play Cooper, i'd just tell him he's playing in the play offs, and get him ready, Gray back to RB, and get Ampadu and Kamara pairing/purring again in midfield.

Like you say, something has gone badly wrong recently, and what a time for that to happen.

Good luck to you and your hubby.

Sorry to hear about the deterioration of your hubby's health, Heidi

"We did miss Bamford being able to hold the ball up front though as we had no one else able to do that"

How many times have I mentioned this on here, when almost everybody have been calling for Piroe & Joseph to start.

We were poor vs Blackburn & again last night at Loftus Road. Paddy provides us with goals, pressing from the front & his movement & running off the ball is second to none.

Some of our fan base can't hold their drink or keep their emotions in check, resorting to assaulting fellow Leeds fans. I've seen it many times on my away travels, it's embarrassing & sickening!

I feel another season in the championship would benefit us in the long term.

I'm forwarding my post from the Post Match Discussion thread

We have to remember we are on 90 points, a total which generally would see a championship team promoted.

Also, the international break killed our momentum, we were flying & rock solid. We had much of our squad away on international duty, I believe only five of the squad remained at Thorp Arch.

Our opponents, especially those in the bottom half of the league, managed to rest much of their squads for two weeks, whereas our players returned from international duty carrying injuries & appearing visibly jaded.

Rodon & Ampadu will have played 60 games come the season, others 50+ games, which is unheard of in modern football.

Heidi the fight ? When did it take place, and is it anything to do with this below ?
Qpr2024 wrote: Sat Apr 27, 2024 8:27 am QPR fan here to understand the boos at the half time speech. We would expect most people to support a grieving dad but wasn't the case at the away end last night.

For context, the man giving his speech lost his son (a former QPR youth player) 18 years ago, he created a charity in in son's name and was greiving and trying to gee up support for his charity and he got boos from the away end and when he addressed it the boos got louder.

My question is why?

Did something happen in the away end at the same time that we missed? (For the sake of humanity, I hope this was it)

Did you not think this was a place he could talk about the death of a former youth player/ his son?

Did he go on too long for your liking?

Or did you not like *the look* of him?

Every Leeds United player should read your QPR blog Heidi and be ashamed of themselves. After the awful news you and your family received you continued to travel, and support those bottle it losers. It should bring home to them the real life that supporters have to endure whilst following these pampered prima donnas!

Best wishes and love to you and your family Heidi xx

With Ipswich still in the driving seat with their extra fans to play it will still go down to the final game. Not long to find out now.

The fight happened around half time as I was told about it when I came back up into the stand. At the end of the game there looked to still be some arguments going on in the area where the earlier fighting had happened.

QPR v Leeds United | 26th April 2024 | Loftus Road

It makes me vomit hearing these tossers have been acting like w**kers, upsetting our own and QPR's supporters. Embarrassment to the club these arseholes.

If you can't handle drink then don't drink.

I've witnessed behaviour like this from Leeds supporters both home and away, and there's no need for it. Also heard some horrendous tales of other club's supporters being attacked by our fans, it's f**king pathetic mate and makes my blood boil.

Thank you and sorry for your losses too. It’s knocked us all for 6 that’s for sure. Trying to pick ourselves up is hard but fingers crossed it will work out.
