Would appear he is still with us. We offered him a contract extension, mainly so that if he moved elsewhere we would get compensation, even if he didn't sign our contract, as he is under 24. Doesn't seem like he has signed elsewhere yet.

Thanks, I just wonder if he is now surplus to requirements, I have to say the news of signing an untried lwb is starting to make me twitchy

Well it's past the middle of July. The kick off for the season is around 3 weeks away. It just seems to me that the Club is playing a very dangerous game of Chicken. I hope they know what they are going!

If the season started today chances are this would be the line-up
GK Messlier
RB Byram
LB Firpo
CB Rodon
CB Struyjk
CM Ampadu
CM Gruev
LW Summerville
RW James/Gnonto
AM Rutter
FW Piroe/Bamford/Joseph

So as it stands a decent starting line-up. Admittedly the options on the bench would be a bit sparse.
Certainly not panic stations and likely if Summerville leaves we then get a replacement, same for Gnonto etc. If Firpo or Gnonto goes same story and we are seemingly looking at a starting right back due to Byram's injury problem. I would think back up options would be signed towards the end of the window.

I agree with you Orange that a clear out from the volatility of the seasons before the last one is a good thing. If I was DF, I would want to build my own squad - around a solid core of course - but move out those who can't or won't move on.

I also agree that I have some faith in the 49ers from a building and decision making perspective.

HOWEVER, the sale of Archie Gray - while I understand the financial logic - has given my faith a bit of a shake!
The reason is that sport here in North America is largely an entertainment business. The fact that teams can be unceremoniously moved from one city to another the moment the bottom line is no longer acceptable just proves this.
The 49ers seem to have not really considered what Archie means to the club. (Or perhaps they culturally simply can't understand it).

I can't help but feel their business experience could have brought an alternative forward in some way if they'd wanted to.
I know I'm speaking on emotion here, but I would've seen almost the whole first team go - except Archie.

I'm excited to see how we shape up by the time the season starts. I have no problem seeing Firpo, Christiansen, Gnonto, Summerville etc. go. I just want to see 3 or 4 exciting young players come in.
And....I so wish Archie was going to be turning out in the new Red Bull shirts

Apparently he played a solid 45 minutes at centre half against Hearts. Spurs fans forum members seem unanimously ecstatic - that they got him so cheaply!

In that regard the, at full back we have a fragile Byram and an injury prone Firpo who might be exiting stage left. There just seems to be a very blinkered approach at full back for a number of seasons. Just saying

Heard that Orta is now trying to convince the player and has given him a clause that sees him able to leave on a free if Cjay writes a negative post on here.

He must be planning to leave on quite a few occasions if that claus is in his contract
