Like me, Brownie thought Wober was OK & Rothwell was probably our best player & Rodon was awful last night.

Interesting that people who know the game can see quality in Rothwell. He didn’t play as often for Southampton simply because they had a strong centre midfield field pairing. As was illustrated when they took us apart last season at our place.

Some folk will probably forget how they have slated him since his arrival if he goes from strength to strength. But seem to applaud mediocre performances by their favourite players.

Sad to see Geo go, but who knows we might play better as a unit rather than relying on one or two players to do something brilliant. It is a team game after all.

Not convinced Brighton is a good move for him.

I thought Rothwell started well - first 25 minutes. After that we started losing control of the game. And I barely watched the 2nd half. But I can see what he offers. Much more aggressive when he gets the ball, likes to run, set pieces better.

That said, Farke said he's still looking for another midfielder

Not convinced Brighton is a good move for him.

Could go either way but I'd err on the side of it being a good one. Moves up a notch before becoming stale.
For me the timing of Rutter's arrival and departure were both wrong. When he signed we needed goals to ensure survival, not future promise. Just as the promise starts to come to fruition, and especially as the side looks more to him for flair, then he leaves.
At certain stages you felt this could have been a financial disaster and at least that has been avoided.

It's 18 as three are GK's and no one needs three goalkeepers unless you have 25 plus players on a squad. Cairns ain't seeing the pitch bar injuries. So 17 as Byram/Bamford are half players, 16 as one is Rothwell though he may go from being low quality to one of the better players at the club in short time. Rothwell is the type/quality of player we were getting in when Rads/Orta first arrived.

For me Gelhardt looks out of his depth and has failed to make any impression at this level, Wober looks well overrated on his showings so far for us, Piroe for reasons best known to himself and Farke can't find the right solution on the pitch. So these 3 players get into the "unproven" category for me.

The other issue for me is the style of play. I don't care what the stats might say but last season, and evidenced so far in this one, that defence of ours is fragile when attacked. We look like being set up with attacking wingbacks that can't defend for toffee and mostly are allowed to wander around the pitch and not be too bothered about the full back areas. We want to fanny about with the ball across the defence and goalkeeper outside the 18 yard box and then have a punt forward every now and then. Would be a great plan if we had clinical finishers and a creative and pacey midfield but we don't. All falls down like a house of cards often enough for us to get constantly sucker punched.

At the moment I rate Gelhardt higher than Rothwell, that could change but I liked what I saw v Boro. I don't think either are good enough to be starters yet but if we don't add quality then both could easily see extended runs in the team.

Gelhardt paying the price for spending a year twiddling his thumbs, rather than letting him leave on loan. It'll take time and patience, not things our fans are known for, for us to see the best of him.

Yeah I agree. How fans think we'd be stronger playing the exact same way as last year is beyond me? We need to improve the midfield and play as a team with everyone contributing, rather than expecting 2 players to win the game.
