I find it surprising and somewhat bewildering that the political opponents in the presidential election can bring out scathing ads that besmirch one another. The origins of political attack ads in United States elections date back to the early days of the republic, but they became more prominent and sophisticated with the advent of mass media in the 20th century.

Personal attacks were present even in the earliest elections. The 1800 presidential election between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson is a notable example, where supporters of each candidate spread vicious rumors and accusations.
Newspapers were the primary medium for political discourse, and they often published scathing editorials and cartoons attacking political opponents.

The 1920s and 1930s saw the rise of radio as a medium for political communication. Attack ads began to appear in the form of radio broadcasts.
The 1950s brought television into American homes, providing a powerful new platform for political ads.

The 1964 "Daisy" ad, used by Lyndon B. Johnson's campaign against Barry Goldwater, is one of the most famous early examples. It suggested that Goldwater's election might lead to nuclear war, using stark imagery and emotional appeal. Political attack ads expanded in scope and reach with advancements in television and later, the internet. Ads became more targeted and sophisticated. The internet age has further revolutionized political attack ads. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube allow for highly targeted and often viral attack ads. The 2016 election highlighted the use of social media for political attacks, including misinformation and fake news.

Political Action Committees (PACs) and Super PACs have played a significant role in funding attack ads, often with less transparency regarding their funding sources. It is said that Kamala Harris through PACs is paying social influencers to endorse her, or paying pop stars to attend her rallies. Megan thee stallion being a prime example that will appeal the black voters.
Attack ads often rely on emotional appeal, using fear, anger, or distrust to sway voters. They focus on the perceived flaws or failures of the opponent rather than the positive attributes of the candidate sponsoring the ad.
With the rise of fact-checking organizations, there has been increased scrutiny of the accuracy of attack ads, although misinformation can still be pervasive.

Overall, political attack ads have evolved significantly from simple newspaper attacks to sophisticated, multimedia campaigns designed to influence voter behavior through emotional and psychological means.

The clowns may change but the circus remains the same.

In the presidential election the VP is usually selected as an attack dog... in some cases a rottweiler with lipstick.

It appears Kamala has made an excellent choice in Walz, he certainly knows how to get the crowd going with the clapping, the wows, and the down home stories. Quite the public speaker.

I think Orangenarcisstictwat will drop out the race if the polls favour Harris before the 6th, there's no way he can handle the humiliation of losing to A. A woman and B. Of colour

I love it.

Please, if there is a Lord, get him in an orange jump suit to match.

Trump got roasted for questioning Kamala was black, and for suggesting that her being black is a ploy to garner black votes... not all blacks are buying it.

Trump has been saying the people attending Kamala rallies have been AI generated. On both sides of the political spectrum, claims are being made of deep fakes. Some are obviously piss takes whereas others are totally convincing. the voice is right but the message is satirical... and wrong.

It’s a very very sad spectacle.

US now ranked the 29th most democratic country … despite all the waffle from politicians about protecting democracy.

Romania … who put a bullet in Ceaucescu are ranked higher

Not much is being said about the forgotten man and the race RFK junior.

Joe Rogan said he is the only one who is taking about policies, where as the other two seem to be wanting to trash each others characters with attack ads.

It is a sore state of affairs when comedy takes precedence over policies.

will RFK jr have any part to play in who becomes the next president?

Weird is the new pop word. It is comical how weird things can get

American politics is weird,
both candidates accuse each of being weird.

It's all about attack ads and that's weird. The media have managed to rehabilitate Kamala from being a cackling looser to being a prestigious candidate which is extremely weird.

The fact that I am cataloguing the weirdness of it is weird. Nobody else seems to be caring or commenting which is weird... perhaps they have election fatigue or the weird things happening in the transfer market is more intriguing... it is a football forum after all

But then again the weirdness of the club selling off our best players has a weird fascination for most supporters.
