They also reached the UEFA Cup final in 2008 and the final of the Europa League in 2022.

My tongue was in my cheek as well SH, it’s obviously easier having a good track record in Europe when you’re virtually guaranteed a place every season although there have been some cracking European nights at Ibrox over the years.

I don't see the appeal.
49ers are only interested in profit, isn't much money in Scottish football.

Curious isn't it? ..Scottish football need a massive influx of cash and restructure to make it viable and competitive so one would assume they see an easy access into Europe (maybe that means they don't see Europe in our future soon and certainly within 5 years seems impossible atm) but how do you attract top players to play in a poor league week in week out.

Nothing can be done about it if it happens, but if 49ers do take over at Ibrox, by association it may bring bad vibes on Leeds. Plenty of people in Scotland have little time for Rangers/Sevco, given their recent history, while Celtic fans are as full of bile as their rivals when it comes to one and other.
I'll leave it at that.

If we take it as them maybe trying to emulate the RB model then Rangers are very much like a Red Bull Salzburg (Austria). A big fish in a small pond and easy access to the top table of European competition. As such you find the unpolished young players, send them to Rangers where they can excel in a poor league and they also get the chance to shine on the highest stage (Champions League). As such it is a great way to quickly elevate the profile of young players and sell them for huge sums. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 11:42 am Curious isn't it? ..Scottish football need a massive influx of cash and restructure to make it viable and competitive so one would assume they see an easy access into Europe (maybe that means they don't see Europe in our future soon and certainly within 5 years seems impossible atm) but how do you attract top players to play in a poor league week in week out.
You then have the situation where Rangers should grow stronger so that keeps their fans happy. If we are seen as the alpha team in the organisation we are in a league which gives us the money to buy the best of the young players that do well at Rangers without it simply being the case of Rangers being a feeder club. Rangers would be a selling club but if they get their strategy right they would get better and better at the same time as a club and should monopolise their domestic league.

Maybe, don't see it personally. Salzburg are 5th atm in a league a lot stronger than the SPL. Celtic and Rangers, who are lagging, then it's all very league 2 after that... Basically the Scottish league comes down to 4 games a season when the clubs Glasgow clubs are on a par...weasel wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 1:19 pm If we take it as them maybe trying to emulate the RB model then Rangers are very much like a Red Bull Salzburg (Austria). Hadn't really noticed Salzburg's drop. It seemed like they were winning title after title, getting the odd good result in Europe and even suceeding with Marsch in charge (similar in that sense to Rangers winning with Gerrard). Maybe RB have grown a bit bored with them or are focussing elsewhere (such as potentially us).The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 1:57 pm Maybe, don't see it personally. Problem would be how do you convince people to put money in a pot to invest in a club whose financial returns are severely limited by its competition?weasel wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 1:19 pm If we take it as them maybe trying to emulate the RB model then Rangers are very much like a Red Bull Salzburg (Austria). Scottish football is never going to have the financial returns (potentially) of English.
Rangers could win 10 trophies in a row it won't make the club worth much more, the selling on is where the return would be.
Or they have to take money out of Rangers but even that it wouldn't be massive returns.
I don't see how a VC fund convinces people to invest in the multi club model because by design almost all of the clubs you invest in won't make money.
It's different for Red Bull and City Group and so on because for one its primarily their own money they use and profit isn't the primary motivation.
For 49ers it is and it isn't even risking the family silver, its other people's cash.
Run before you can walk springs up
But seems they have convinced people, don't think it benefits us anyway.

From a venture perspective it might depend on a) can you get it at an attractive price b) can you build value into "the business" c) is there an asset such as land/stadium on the balance sheet that has opportunity away from the playing side d) is there a potential buyer at the higher valuation down the line e) can you liquidate your investment to the next buyer in a reasonable time frame.
Hard to tick those boxes for Rangers apart from a) and c) is an unknown for me.

Could it be that Rangers are in a position to qualify for the Champions League as they did this season?Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 4:32 pm Problem would be how do you convince people to put money in a pot to invest in a club whose financial returns are severely limited by its competition?

They were eliminated in the second-round, though.

Gradually I'm coming to the conclusion that our owners won't be developing the stadium, or doing anything meaningful to change our medium to long term future. Basically they'd like us to be a mid table PL club for the next 5 years or so whilst they wait to see if the streaming revenue goes through the roof and then they'll be looking to cash out.
Obviously they might go earlier if the right price were to be offered.

Depends on whose propaganda you believe but the Marathe/Rangers angle could be a Marathe solo run.
No 49ers involvement.
Basically putting a bunch of investors together to do the deal.

Personally I've never really seen how they expect to make a decent enough profit to justify it to the investors?Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 7:50 pm Gradually I'm coming to the conclusion that our owners won't be developing the stadium, or doing anything meaningful to change our medium to long term future. Been 8 years now.
They've sold bits off which made some money.
But they must need a sale price of £500mil just to generate a decent profit as it stands.
Nobody is paying that any time soon and we will require more investment if promoted which makes the needed sale price go up as well.
Those far more qualified than I can probably explain how but to me I don't see it?

Re: Marathe/49ers/Red Bull
It has to be the forecast growth in income from the PL launching its own streaming service as potentially it could increase revenues fivefold or maybe even more for clubs who have a large global fanbase. If you remember Radrazani stated that his ambition was to have the club valued at £1Billion and the 49ers will share that same ambition.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 8:39 pm Personally I've never really seen how they expect to make a decent enough profit to justify it to the investors?

Paraag Marathe has dismissed talk that Rangers would become a feeder club for Leeds United and insisted any multi club ownership would see each club get equal attention and finance.
And I still don't like the sound of this.

It's like buying a retail franchise. You make no money by owning 1 store. You must buy multiple, vertically integrate and get cost savings by scaling. That's when profit grows.
I know people don't like corporate finance talk when it comes to our game and our club, but its the model that works in the 21st century.
I would rather be owned by the 49ers and Red Bull than the Saudis.
