He did he did well in his cameo. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 10:40 pm Top finish, won some headers, loved he slowed play down, linked play, engineered a FK and then surreptitiously kicked the ball away. Great hold up play and top tackle at the end .. hell of a lot of productive work in such a small amount of time.
I'm not Paddy's biggest fan and not sure he'd be good as a starter but he's always been a quality bench player.
Just saying people have short memories
This is a situation we've seen play out numerous times.

Re: Middlesbrough v Leeds United Match Thread
Every three points is crucial at this stage, folk were wobbling after the recent sequence of draws but tonight might have been the evening where Burnley and Sheffield U thought they'd stretch things a wee bit away from Leeds. They could even have been thinking of a draw between each other on 21st being a decent result, but the pressure is back on them. I've a feeling SU are fucked for promotion.
That Leeds win against a form side will undoubtedly boost confidence: this could be the night we'll look back on as the evening things swayed back to Leeds.

I thought it was 1975 again? Officials still trying their best?

And you've undermined Paddy's performance to cover up Piroe's deficiencies, which were very evident once again tonight.
Give the man (who has endured a torrid time with injuries) plenty of credit for his cameo, he deserves all the praise he receives!
I'm unsure we'd have held onto a victory without his presence upfront in the final thirty minutes.

He had a decent little cameo, won some headers and tackles which is good under the circumstances and unlucky with the goal1964white wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 11:22 pm And you've undermined Paddy's performance to cover up Piroe's deficiencies, which were very evident once again tonight.

Which I said.
And Piroe has been in poor form for a while now (perhaps knackered given he's played in basically every game since he joined the club).
But the proper number 9 stuff hardly necessary Piroe slander in favour of a player whose last run of starts ended with 1 goal in 8 himself and people desperately wanting him dropped.
A theme throughout his time here, short memories as I said.
He did well, hopefully he can contribute more.
But it wasn't like he was doing wonderful number 9 things holding the ball up getting us up the pitch, Boro had 8 shots in 20 minutes with Paddy on and 9 in 70 without.
It was more harassing which he's always been good at and being a pest.

I didn't see the game (had to work), but I'm having fits just reading all your posts.
I'll watch the replay mostly to see just how egregious the two offside calls were.

Don't....please don't get me started on 1975
However, how can the same linesliar call out two offsides in this game after calling out more earlier in the season for us. HOW???? Indeed?

I get all the history with Paddy, but if he'd scored tonight, then everyone would be on the bandwagon to say what a difference he made.
He won balls in the air. Something piroe seems incapable of for some reason.
He tracked back.
He made a very important tackle at the death from the kind of situation Swansea scored from because no one made the tackle.
And he did score, just biased linesman ruling it out.
How does anyone think that wasn't better than Piroe?
Not saying he's the solution to everything and that he should start over Piroe, but having him back as an option is invaluable

Re: Middlesbrough v Leeds United Match Thread
OMG How did we survive those last 10 minutes!
We finally won a game we could have easily lost, if you accept we only had 1 goal on the night.
It's an impossible job being a linesman or referee. (I've done it).
On the Bamford 'goal', I don't think you can see when the ball was actually played, it was behind the defenders legs, so I don't know how they choose when to stop the picture. So if you stop it a fraction of a second before they did, he will be clearly onside. If you stop it a fraction of a second after they did, then he will clearly be offside.
The linesman has to try to figure all that out in real time, which is frankly impossible to do.
Anyway, we won and our fate is back in our hands. COME ON LEEDS!!!

Wasn’t going to go that far as I still think he’s getting his match fitness back. But I agree with you in spirit. Piroe looked cooked at the 45 minute mark, which is when I was advocating for Paddy’s insertion. Think that’s probably the ideal situation for Paddy as I’ve suspected for the past few games that Piroe is starting to tire from all the usage. And Piroe was never going to fool anyone as a workhorse to begin with. Always thought he’s an every other match type player. Yet he’s been relied on as an every match player all season.

His tracking back and getting stuck in on defense is something we’ve not seen this season. Paddy has been refreshing to see get back in action.AlbaNick wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 12:56 am I get all the history with Paddy, but if he'd scored tonight, then everyone would be on the bandwagon to say what a difference he made.

I've always said that Farke should play a left back as a right winger.
I have always said Lord Bamford has a purple patch, looses his marbles then gets injured.
I have always said Darlow is a better keeper than Meslier.
I have always said Farke will get us promoted.
I have always said Rodon/Ampadu is our best defensive partnership, and Tanaka/Gurev form a great pair in midfield.
I have always said Bogle and Firpo are the best wing backs in the league.
I have always said Aaronson runs forever like a Duracell bunny.
I have always said Solomon and James are a great combo to get goals.
Piroe is shite, can't see why Cjay loves him.
