Who knows he may even add to his tally with crucial goals that clinch the title and absolutely scupper my wager on Burnley.

Rodon/Ampadu combo conceded one goal in our last three games, and that one was a cracker.
Turned that one around nicely.

We miss Rothwell. Gruev is too one dimensional for me. He can only pass the way he is facing with the instep of his left boot. I am sure he has more in his locker but he seems content to be ultra cautious and rather bland. It is a useful approach in certain games but we are lacking variation without Rothwell available.

Possibly, but I am not overly concerned about the other game. We just need to get the three points, anything else that happens today which helps our promotion push is a bonus.

Stoke on an unbeaten run of five games, almost on the beach but quite not.

Lets remind ourselves of when our resurgence began:

One of the few times I’d disagree with you -
Rothwell for the last thirty minutes if we were chasing a game, but Gruev for an overall better balance as has shown in the last three games and quite a few of the games before we had the three consecutive draws (which Gruev wasn’t selected to start IIRC)

Just got parked up at the top of ER. Should be a good game this one, let's get behind the boys and let Stoke have both barrels.
Next time we speak we could be there bar the shouting 🤞

Ever since he arrived here i've been searching for a word to describe Gruev, and you've nailed it with 'bland. I'll be very very surprised if he can step up to Prem football, but i suppose for £4m or whatever it was he's been fine for a promotion chasing Championship squad.
In fact i'm struggling to see who will be able to step up, but collectively under Farke they might, just might, be okay with some additions.
This possession based footy is starting to get found out as Pep is finding out, and off he can go spending £Millions and £Millions to find the best players in the world to bail him out. Farke won't be able to do that, and will have to shop either in bargain basement, rejects, or the scouts will have to try and unearth some talent that the top 18 clubs have overlooked including the Spanish/German giants etc.
But I feel Farke does have another string to his bow, and i'm relating this to that Chelsea cup game last year where we went at them. Because we aren't going to be better than the vast majority of the Premier teams at the possession based stuff, so i'm hoping Farke tries to take the game to them all (within reason) because some of our best games like v Leicester last year, are when we gone at them.
Oh s**t, we're not promoted yet
Yeah 'bland, that was the word

Good word for Gruev, he is definitely a Soviet era footballer mentallity wise anyway.

Promotion willing he will have had two years with us and hopefully he can get another club in England to take him.

Farke has been pretty astute signings wise so lets hope if he has a bit of a war chest his choices can be as good next time

Gruev may be bland or boring but his role enables others to be exciting hence the better balance.

The other night he spent most of the game at LB because Firpo was up alongside Solomon.
When Bogle ventured forwards, then Tanaka filled in at RB and Gruev moved to DM.

he is boring, what frustrated me on Friday was the amount of times he had a chance to move it to his left, but becuase he is so heavily left footed he always moved it into the middle.

Its hard to watch at times

In order to have a great meal, someone has to do the washing up.

Is it me or is that no James on the bench. Reinjured?

Harry Gray on the bench
