I'd guess £10m to £12m.

Re: Mateo Joseph
Must be unhappy here. He missed out on an Olympic gold medal and was told he would be a regular as a result, but barely featured in the second half of the season. It could come back to haunt us, but £15m would be a good fee.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 2:32 pm More reports in Spain today that Real Betis are pushing to sign Mateo and are in concrete talks with his advisors.
A bid was rejected in January with DF and the club insisting he was an important part of the team.
However his lack of minutes since may see Mateo push for a move to the Europa Conference League Semi Finalists.
His reputation in Spain is high with his 7 goals in 9 u21 games for the national team not gone unnoticed

Was excellent start of season, got dropped really to allow Piroe to play the 9. but the quality is there... We'd be mad to let him go

Straight loan next season, if he does well we’ll have a decision to make, but even if we sell him he’ll have doubled in value.

Re: Mateo Joseph
I must have missed his excellent early season performances
Was generally poor and occasionally average.
Not sure of his current value but pretty low for me.
If some are saying 15 million then using that number would mean us spending our whole Summer budget on a proven number 9

Was p*ss poor at the start of the season and blew his chance. Piroe kept coming on as a sub and scoring and forced his way in. Joseph as sub was the complete opposite. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 8:35 pm Was excellent start of season, got dropped really to allow Piroe to play the 9. but the quality is there... You have to take your chance when you get it in football.

Re: Mateo Joseph
Hasn't worked out for him this season, maybe the pressure of being the starting 9 got to him as he seemed to be almost trying too hard. But I think the talent is there, so I'd favour a loan, perhaps with guaranteed playing time to see what he could do playing week in, week out.

Re: Mateo Joseph
Sometimes things just don't fall into place or you don't get the rub of the green. So it was for Matteo Joseph. He tried hard, perhaps too hard to make it work and in the meantime someone else got in line ahead of him and that remained all season.
It would be very shortsighted to to sell him off and I would advocate a loan out for next season either into the Championship or to Spain perhaps to get him hopefully firing. He is no youngster now and it seems this coming season will be a make or break time for him.
If he can make the grade it'd be a real boost for us.

Re: Mateo Joseph
We need to be honest & admit he had a poor season, it appears that the missed chance against Burnley really shook his confidence.
If he couldn't score when coming on as a sub against Championship opponents he's highly unlikely to do so against better quality Premier League defences, thus IMO he needs to be somewhere else next year.
The risk with a loan is that if he has a bad season his value falls, so sell with a decent sell-on clause makes more sense to me. We enjoy the PSR benefit now, which we're going to need to strengthen the squad, and we don't miss out if his value increases significantly following success with Betis.

Re: Mateo Joseph
To be fair MJ has not really had a good crack at it. Coming on with a handful of minutes left in a match does not really count IMHO. In that regard then, he's basically been a bench warmer for almost the whole season. Who knows where things might have ended up if he'd had a run of games but then life or football isn't like that; another guy was deemed to be ahead of him and held on to his place and had a good season. MJ had to wait for the chance that never really came and when he did get on the pitch in the dying embers of a game he never looked anything specialAylingFlop wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 9:16 am We need to be honest & admit he had a poor season, it appears that the missed chance against Burnley really shook his confidence.

Joseph started our first 8 league matches. He scored one goal during that time from a total of 662 minutes.
During those 8 matches Piroe started once and came on as a sub 7 times. He scored 3 goals during that time from a total of 171 minutes.
For me Joseph had a fair crack and simply didn't take it. Piroe forced his way in. Excuses that it was hard for Joseph to then do anything in the dying embers of game ignore the fact that it was precisely what Piroe had done to force his way in. Piroe's 3 goals during those first 8 matches came from 3 sub appearances where he came on in the 74th, 84th and 70th minute.

Re: Mateo Joseph
Fair points weasel and I can't disagree. As I say Piroe got in there after Joseph had his chance but didn't show anything and then he had to get in line on the bench. The great Allan Clarke always used to say that it took him 10 or so games to really get motoring at the start of the season. Not that I am comparing Clarke and Joseph you understand but Piroe had his chance and took it - but even at that there was a fair degree of continuing chuntering from our fans about Piroe throughout the season except for perhaps the last 10 or so games.weasel wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 7:31 pm What would you count as a fair run of games?

Kismet I think
I am in the camp that thinks we should hang on to MJ, loan him out this next season and see if he can cut the mustard.

1 goal, three assists, a goal in his first game as sub. Fairly sure I can find a less productive Piroe run this season and he's not making a step up from the 21's, first season in the first team, start of a new season....weasel wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 7:31 pm What would you count as a fair run of games?

Joseph shite run - Piroe piling the pressure on to Farke to make the change by scoring 3 goals, oh and 1 assist, from his 171 minutes.
Piroe shite run - Joseph putting no pressure on Farke to make the change by making zero impact. Such was the ineffective of Joseph from the bench that Bamford went ahead of him as the only serious competition to Piroe.
If Joseph had come on and been giving his all then he likely would have gotten a chance when Piroe had a poor run. Sadly Joseph did nothing and worryingly to me he seemed to not really put any effort in either.

100% with you Weasel.
Taking out the stats Joseph’s all round game was abysmal
If he can’t show any signs against mid table championship sides why do some think he should stay
