Well that's a problem for the FA, No? It shows that they are a bit out of touch with the clubs when it comes to the number of matches having to be played. So you end up with a debacle. (no, you cant blame Farke for that).

If clubs weren't having to do stupid things like a "summer PL" in the USA, world club cup or whatever the f** that thing was called in the summer, not to mention the huge number of (often pointless) international games), maybe clubs could take the cup competitions a bit more seriously again.
For the top teams (not saying that's us yet), there is just too much football. Pay 40 million for a player, who inevitably is an international, and he has a huge chance of being injured in the course of the season.

Same in all sports - because wages, prize money etc. is obscenely high now, greedy organizers, media companies and sponsors are demanding their (extra) pound of flesh.

Maybe they should make this cup an U21 tournament.

Yet Palace won their first major trophy and Newcastle won their first in almost 50 years last season. It's a shame we think we're above winning the league cup, I'd love to see us win a trophy.
