Earlier change v City likely more due to Dan James's injury which gave him the choice over whether to simply do a like for like sub or try something different, something that they may have been working on.

The average time of his subs pre this week was the 73rd minute.

It's a good thing.

He's famous for his late subs, he's made the latest or bottom 3 latest in every season as a manager in the league.

By his usual standards 65th minute is early and it's usually like for like.

Fair question here (perhaps even worth a poll of the day), but how many of you were expecting the throw everyone up top YOLO strategy to occur after we went 2-0 down?

I think I’m still in disbelief as to what I just witnessed. Fair play to him for finally getting it right (only took 2+ years). Switching to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation with the appropriate substitutions for that formation worked brilliantly. Credit where credit is due.

Hardly like when we were playing the 4231 system and were behind that we'd be looking to throw on an extra centreback though.

What a fantastic two games from our team. Winning (4 points from 6 against the World Champions and the Premier League champions) just makes life feel more worth living and gives you a bounce back in your step.

EXACTLY, weasel! Did you see where he played Bornauw? Up top…which only adds to my disbelief. That had a tinge of the YOLO element, but in a more subdued manor relative to the previous “go for it” circumstances from Farke.

Bornauw really worked out well. I saw the logic right away after seeing him inserted as a forward. Get the tying third goal via a likely height advantage from set pieces and then have an extra defender afterwards to ensure the result stands. Made a lot of sense. Fair play.

But forgive my disbelief given the previous 2+ years of evidence with Farke. Could you have honestly predicted the strategic decisions he employed today on the body of evidence from the previous 2+ years at the helm (and in his time elsewhere) ? It’s almost as if he employed an independent consultant to identify where his biggest flaws are and he’s now begun employing the results of those findings. Hopefully, this change from Farke is a start of things to come…

I'm with Cjay on this one Weasel. DF has been nothing but consistent in only bringing on subs 75 mins or later - even when the situation arguably called for much earlier changes.
His subs in the last 2 games have been way more timely and proactive. Also, he made some very brave changes, focusing on attack and aggression. I think he enabled the players to focus on the task at hand.

His formation and use of changes is improving markedly. Not sure who has slapped him up the sidenof his head, but long may it continue.

Sometimes things suddenly click, the stars align or whatever. ....again, long may it continue.

Defensively, we were poor yesterday, gifting the scousers early Christmas presents for their goals, two of them coming down our left side once again.

Great comeback with our subs Aaronson, Gnonto & Tanaka excelling to drag us back into the game & earn us a point that seemed lost.

I agree with you that the throw every striker on strategy was very much flawed.I think though that in the main his normal tactics worked in the championship so there was little need for drastic tinkering. I don't think he got the credit he deserved so hopefully he can win the doubters over. I don't buy the 'only good in the championship' tag as a good manager should be able to manage at any level the only difference is that you may go from being one of the best teams to one of the worst and fans need to grasp that reality.

I think Cjay got confused when googling as AI gives Leeds average time of making a substitute in the premier league this season as 74.9 minutes - but that is average time of all substitutions rather than the average time of making the first change. So making a fifth change, a 95th minute sub, counts towards that average. It has been a running joke on Squareball, DGTBJY etc that he makes his first change roughly halfway through the second half - which would be the 67th minute. As such in the Chelsea and Liverpool games the timing of his first substitution was very much in keeping with his normal routine.

I think his changes in formation in the last 3 matches have been more obviously noticable, more drastic than say replacing Dan James with WIlly Gnonto which was probably more of the go to type sub in the championship. I would say though in this last week we have been playing 3 teams with starting line ups cost significantly more than ours and as such it neccesitated the need to try to outfox them rather than say when we were playing teams like West Ham, Everton etc where we could see how we match up against them playing our usual formation. It will be interesting to see what formation(s) we use against teams that are closer to our level.

Was the same on Sky Adverts after the match yesterday. Tuned in for after match reactions. All we got mainly is "woe is Leverpull, OMG what is happening, what about the poh faced Salah, blah, blah, blah. Lots of wrist wringing and navel gazing. Apparently it is some kind of disastrous, catosthropic, World-wide crisis of the like never seen before! Totally ignored that there was another team involved other than a token few minutes at the end.

Saw the same thing on the faces of the Leverpull team as they came off after the match - surprised that they hadn't walked off with 3 points seeing as they'd bothered to turn up
