Even 30 makes me uneasy. I think I would stand pat instead.

15-20 plus Piroe and I would feel better.

Maybe the deal is being held up for the following reasons.....

Wolves want a ready-made replacement in their preparation for the championship, and Piroe is that solution.

Also, I reckon JSLs agent wants him at Leeds.

It's not a lot of money in terms of premiership prices. It's only ten more than we paid for Rio 25 years ago. Think we're used to thinking small as a club and as fans tbh. Too many years in lower leagues.

I just don’t think it’s a necessary signing at this moment in time and given the price you’d expect to be excited, I wasn’t bothered in the slightest when it looked like he was going to Palace and that’s telling. I get the need for back up but it’s a lot to spend for someone I’d personally not start over a fit DCL - and with relegation an ever present threat we’d just be transferring wolves risk of hanging on to him over to ourselves.

I think we need to look at this from the point of view of both getting some insurance against an injury for DCL this season and in terms of squad building for the next couple of seasons . The club appear to have taken a view that the value of Strand Larsen is in or about the £40 m mark which is based on their assessment of what is his value in the current market and they were also prepared to walk away when there appeared to be silly money going to be thrown about. In my opinion over the season the club's recruitment strategy has proven to be broadly correct and with a sensible attitude to getting value for their investment .I am sure there was a fairly detailed analysis done before their bid was put in and therefore and I'm sure DF had some input into the process I think theu have earned the right to make those decisions for the club .

Just curious, but what kind of return would most of you expect from JSL if we signed him for 40 million? How many goals would he need to score in what's left of this season? Then how many goals per year in the coming seasons? What exactly would the expectations be?

In the last 3 1/2 seasons playing in La Liga and the Premiership he has scored 31 goals in 123 league games. That's ONE goal in every FOUR games. However, in his first season in Spain he scored just 4 goals in 32 matches. And this season he has scored just ONE goal in 19 matches. Do we consider his dip in production this season a result of playing on a team that is imploding? Or has he been found out at this level? That's a LOT of questions for 40 million.....

Not too much this season, but I'd expect him to start next season and 20 goals ish. Assuming no injuries. 100M in this division guarantees nothing, especially out of the gate. Look at Isak, Wirtz, Grealish etc.

I'd go to 30, not worried if Farke and the board wants to go to 40.

Strange how everyone trusts Farke etc for everything bar spending 40M...

So you think the expectation for a player that has never scored more than 14 goals in a season is 20 goals? interesting! I'd be thrilled if he could average around 12 goals a season in the Premier League.

And I do trust Farke to a degree. Since he changed tactics and results have followed I've given him some grace.

It suggests that he is a bit of a streaky striker. Had a couple of years where the goals went in but a few years of very little.

I said Farke and the board ... Really couldn't be arsed to repeat it completely, felt it redundant tbh. Point still stands.

the bottom line is we need MORE goals this season to stay up. Lots of draws will not be enough
Leeds need a great summer 2026 with outgoings and incoming players

I've changed my mind on Strand Larson since this morning.

We should sign him and within reason pay what it takes, so roughly £35M plus add ons.

The reason being Farke clearly wants him, otherwise the initial bid wouldn't have gone in. Also other clubs rate him so even if we went down we should be able to get 3/4 of our money back in the summer. Alternatively keep him for a bounce back season in the Championship (no loan clauses from Marathe remember).

Come on Leeds there is an opportunity here so let's get it done.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance on a player, and hope he comes up with the goods. Im sure plenty of checks have been made by the relevant people at the club and from those findings they have to decide if he is worth the gamble. Most if not all signing are a gamble to a degree.
Get for as low a price as we can and then see how it works out.

Sorry about this.

"The total saga regarding Jean-Kevin Augustin (JKA) cost Leeds United approximately £40 million.

Here is the breakdown of the costs:

Settlement with RB Leipzig:

In December 2022, Leeds reached a settlement with RB Leipzig for £15.5 million to settle the dispute over the obligation to buy the striker.

Compensation to Player:

Following a FIFA ruling, Leeds was ordered to pay the player around £24.5 million in compensation for breach of contract, which represented the full 5-year contract he would have signed.

Leeds originally appealed the decision, but later withdrew the appeal against the £24.5m compensation payment in 2024. Augustin made only three brief substitute appearances for the club in 2020. "

So our most expensive player ever - nearly £1m for each minute he was on the pitch...Orta excelled himself. This breakdown presumably didn't include any legal costs that we must have forked out.

I deleted the post when I saw you'd put a catch-all etc in there.
