And I think it's fairly clear I DON'T DO GROUPTHINK...
We all think you don't do Groupthink

I think sometimes folk look for things to worry about. You cant write off a player so easily.
Plus the recruitment team have produced a united, performing squad which can be built on in the long term.
Indeed. A couple of weeks ago Okafor was the whipping boy but he has now grabbed a couple of goals and hopefully has got his confidence up. DCL looked awful till he was gifted a couple of goals (v Man City and Chelsea) and then started banging them in.

Players don't all settle in at the same time, some make great starts and then seem to fade (Tanaka) whereas others can look poor and then find their feet (Aaronsen and Gruev).

I would be wary of writing anyone off in their first season at a new club.

Amazing that.

We could have 2 players on the fringes of our squad, maybe sometimes not even making the bench, maybe then getting fed-up, no loyalty to the club so why should they put the effort in if they don't think they will play. Don't think that is healthy in a united squad.
I agree, but its a freebee, and who knows if we'll need it or not. We have a very slim squad

Exactly. We have been crying out for a 10 and we now have a few months to assess him in training and see if he is worth us splashing the cash on him. See how well he fits in with the other players and then decided in the summer if we want to pursue him as a permanent signing. Bogle and Solomon both had slow starts for us in the championship but then got better and better, maybe sometimes players need to adapt to the formation they are playing in, the specific role, their team maters etc. Buanonotte is obvioulsy a far better player than he looked on Sunday.

Okafor has been in and out of form. I'm still not sure what his best position is

At present we are not in the position to sign big name players with proven quality, as they might fear getting relagated with us. And they dont want that on their CV according to some fans thinking. So the players we get in are always going to be a gamble as to whether or not they make a difference.
Its all well and good saying we should buy this or that player, which is ok, but its still a gamble and sometimes it does turn out wrong. For a club thats just got back into the Premiership and were always going to be up against it, i feel we have done well, and most of the players we brought in to help us have been good.
I really dont get this thought that our recruitment team havent done their job well. Every player hasn`t turned out to be worth their starting place, but thats life.
Lets try and make the best of what we have, stop gurning at every little thing that goes wrong, and enjoy the rest of the season. If it goes tits up in the remaining games then there will be plenty of time to moan and complain during the summer :)

As can Gnonto, Okafor, Nmecha and Aaronson..

Sounds like we're looking at James Trafford on loan and Hayden Hackney from Boro for next season

We really don't. We have a bigger squad than most who unlike us have younger players on the bench.

We do but not many serious injuries at the time of the window being open. I think if we'd have had a few more injuries or a few players that were clearly not up to the standard then we would have been more active. As it is though it was a case of who can you actually bring in that would be better than we have or are we just bringing in a squad filler. West Ham's situation different as they had much more need to change and positions available in the starting line-up.

It may come back to bite us but we should have enough squad dpeth barring a ridiculous injury crisis.

I don't know that his best position is actually a position in our best formation. As such I think he is having to adapt to the way we are now playing.

Watched it earlier, Faaip.

Yes, I enjoyed it, even though I found the presenter annoying.

Apparently, more young Gray siblings in our academy.

Good conversation on our FA Cup run & Eddie's opinion on Farke, Ampadu & Calvert-Lewin

I did post up The Square Ball's interview with Eddie on Monday, with no response!

ruttermania wrote: ↑Tue Feb 17, 2026 12:47 pm It was very clear that one of the misses of the summer transfer window was a No.10 / Right sided player who would provide some creative spark like if one was setting a high bar the role that Pablo played for Bielsa in his first two seasons . Buananotte was identified as one of the possible candidates and was missed out on due to the Brighton/ Chelsea axis . Aaronson was given time and has grown into a similar type role which with the formation change has meant that it wasn't as big a miss as first feared . As the chance came to secure the player with the advantage that the cost for half a season was much less than originally budgeted for it would seem to have been a risk worth taking despite his lack of minutes at Chelsea . Given that Farke has shown a level of tactical flexibility which has come as a surprise to many of our fans it makes complete sense to have a player available who offers a different skillset which enables other options. As I believe the 3-5-2 system had already been used in training prior to the City game I believe there is a good chance that other systems which fit Buananotte better will be being worked on . The problem for him which is a bonus for the club is that various squad members who have got the chance through injury etc. have stepped up to the plate in the last couple of months which has made it harder for those trying to get an opportunity including those coming back from injury.
Thing is Aaronsson has never been a 10. He's a box to box midfielder. Farke had nobody else to fill Rutter's role last season, so Aaronsson was asked to fill it.
