Re: Leeds United vs Brentford Match Thread
After a post match swim and a little dinner I've cooled down a bit. Still disappointed with how we played. But not necessarily with the result.
What's really disappointing to me is HOW WE PLAYED. Our shape was way off in my view. Which led to a lot of wasted possession and a lack of good chances. For the life of me I can't see why Nmecha and DCL were dropping so deep. Only about once each were they in a position to receive the ball and take a shot. Instead, we had our wide players in the box, particularly Bogle. I don't recall us playing this way all season. We just seemed so out of shape!
As for the changes Farke made. Okafor was a complete dud. And I'll own the fact that I called for him. But he was really disappointing. And in retrospect Piroe would have been a better choice than Tanaka in my view. That guy can and will shoot from anywhere. Which we needed today.
So I was disappointed in our performance in the attacking end. But I'm actually very happy with the result. I'll take this point and happily move on to the next one. Brentford are just 3 points off a place in Europe. And they are solidly a top ten team. So looking at the result in a sober manor, I think it's a pretty damn good result!

At the start of the season, most of us would have taken 33 pts with four of the bottom five teams to play. Nothing in our last 3 months would suggest we can’t win at least 2 of these games. Those teams all need to win so they can’t afford not to come at us.

Agree 100%. Its kinda Sad reallySean_Nile wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2026 10:51 pm What a glorious, defiant stand at Elland Road! Leeds United stood tall and battled Brentford to a hard-fought 0-0 draw, refusing to buckle under the pressure in this crucial Premier League clash.
The Whites delivered a rock-solid defensive masterclass, shutting out a dangerous Brentford side that came with ambition but left with nothing but frustration. Every block, every clearance, every roar from the faithful in the stands echoed the unbreakable spirit of Leeds, another precious point banked in the fight for survival, proving once again that when the chips are down, this team rises like phoenixes.
The march continues, heads held high, the walls of Elland Road fortress may be battered but tonight they remain unconquered!
Meanwhile, oh the sweet symphony of meltdown from the moaning minnies! The doomsayers, the perpetual whingers, the keyboard warriors who’ve been predicting our imminent doom for weeks, even years, they’re absolutely losing their minds right now. They fear that Farke just might be right and a point a game will be enough for survival. They have staked their lives on it that Farke has to be wrong.
Screaming into the void about “boring football,” “Farke out,” and “relegation confirmed,” their bitter tears are flowing like the River Aire in flood. Every tweet, every rant, every over-the-top meltdown thread is pure comedy gold as they parrot one another and spiral into full frizzy haired hysteria over a gritty, hard-earned point that keeps us in the scrap.
While Leeds grit their teeth and grind out results, these perpetual victims are imploding spectacularly, long may their anguish continue as we keep defying the odds, and let them plod on together squawking inanities at each other while imprisoned in a hellish echo chamber of their own making.

I am the Pseudo intellectual who imagines himself to be the resident comedian, and have taken it apon myself to lambast the coterie of pitiful plodders, and their cry baby attitude, I have now gained the appellation of being weird... and no doubt other name calling will follow... such is the way of the plodding mind, pile on the negativity, it is the only way they operate... plod plod plod, say it enough times and it becomes true.
King Plod and his plod brigade have cast me in a certain light, so I might as well own it... how could it be otherwise with a pseudo intellectual resident comedian, being weird has to be a given. I am their creation and apparently they don't like what they have created.
The plodders are fully invested in destroying Farke's reputation and anyone who has the temerity to defend him, then becomes a legitimate target as well, and the plodders are so unimaginative that they spew out the same ad hominem tactics that they use on Farke.
Cry babies the lot of them, let them wallow in their self inflicted pain... they have to love a bit of masochism... plodding on together.

The one all players adamantly claimed for & a massive shout from the kop in the second-half, Brentford defender with his arm wagging about in a unnatural position.

All the replays seemed to be clear, one was the midfrift, one missed the hand (Thiago) and there was a third IIRC but that didn't look a pen either. Think VAR checked them all.

Absolutely zero decent balls for DCL to use yesterday. From pitchside, my position yesterday, the problem is glaring obvious, we have no one with the creativity to break a block defence and give him - or Nmecha, come to that - decent tools to work with.
All our so called creative players are doing everything at full pace. Brendan had two players on him constantly which ought to have created space elsewhere but we had no one to benefit. Brendan wasn’t awful yesterday but he was ineffective because he was stifled instantly.
Problems which only DF can sort out. But can he?

Third clean sheet in a row, by every metric we were the better team.

How many goals and assists have all our wingers combined contributed this season ? We are actually far weaker in terms of wing play than last season.

Funny how nobody mentions the elephant in the room - nearly 7 hours of PL football now without finding the net once.
That's not going to be a factor in the last few games however
Of course, if as a Leeds fan - with the unbelievably chequered history of the club - you have some concerns that yet again the wheels will fall off, you are labelled by a resident nutter on here as " trying to destroy Farke's reputation. " And this despite me a couple of times on here having said that Farke for me is the 5th best ever Leeds manager, after Revie, Wilko, O'Leary and Armfield. Though I must admit now that it was probably a bit premature to rank him so highly. Maybe joint 5th with Bielsa. His stock has fallen a bit recently though.

Re: Leeds United vs Brentford Match Thread
If we do stay up then there is the spine of a decent team there.
We have three good CBs, plus two or three decent FBs/Wingbacks.
Then there's Stach and Ampadu in midfield.
We need a huge clear out in the summer of ; Perri, Longstaff, Gruev, Piroe, James, Bornauw, Okafor and Aaronson, and then rebuild around that spine. DCL is moot, but we can't rely on him exclusively if he stays. I would prefer Gnonto to stay, but very likely he will go as well. DF probably wouldn't use him even if he stays.
Note that this list includes four of our summer signings....That's a bit of an admission of failure really.

even against burnley and wolves we will struggle to create playing that formation, does farke gamble on 4 2 3 1 or carry on grinding out points and curing insomnia?

I mentioned a few weeks ago that we needed to start scoring goals, that it was becoming a worry.CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2026 9:20 am Funny how nobody mentions the elephant in the room - nearly 7 hours of PL football now without finding the net once.

They are hard time to beat, very solid keeper, very organised and they have Thiago up front who has been scoring for fun. I thought we managed them quite well, but we did not commit enough men into their box in open play to give them problems until the last 15 minutes. But even at this point the final ball quality was poor.Orange Box wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2026 8:51 am Absolutely zero decent balls for DCL to use yesterday. It needed a defensive mistake to create a breakthrough for either team. Bijol managed Thiago very well, as did Struijk when The Tara dude came on.
3 points would have been ideal but a point is not a disaster. It is ironic that the people highlighting our lack of goals now are pretty much the same posters who moaned we could not keep a clean sheet - tough crowd.
