Re: West Ham vs Leeds United Match Thread
And I heard that Farke made Wee Willy change his boots in an act of micro-management before the game started. Daniel as he always does had sniffed the grass and instantly knew that it was better for studs than blades.
Gnonto after scoring his penalty was heard to remark that he would never distrust Farke's decision making again, and that the change of boots had allowed him to score the best penalty of his life.

He's trying too hard plus his positioning for games has been strange, Farke has him playing more box to box than his best DMF position where he has everything in front of him. I'm guess the sweeper system we play now not really suiting himJohnthewhite wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 7:44 pm Agree with that, not the General he was in the first half of the season

Indeed, let's hope the officials side with them & they fluff their lines again. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 7:19 pm I don't know how anyone (including the commentary team) could watch that tackle on Stach and not see serious foul play. OK Stach got there first but it was still a bad tackle and would have been a FK anywhere else on the pitch and a red seriously considered
There has to be impartiality with VAR, but we seemed to get excuses not to give it. The Aaronson one was a nailed on pen too. The foot way too high for their equalizer.. The they won't discount this because the fans would go wild is not a good enough reason not to give the foul...
But in the end we won and you know what? West Ham just played for 3 hours (basically 2 games) and they have a big game in 6 days they'll have to get themselves up for. Could that be more perfect?

The officials were determine to rig that match, one way or another.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 7:24 pm The thing is as well that they have decided this season that it doesn't matter about what happens to the ball - as shown when Gnonto was fouled v Liverpool and we got the penalty despite the ball going out of play and Gnonto not being in a position where he would have been able to get to it even if he wasn't fouled.
It wasn't like it was a block that was in front of the player so the defender iscoming at the ball from the other side and it is momentum taking you through after missing the ball.
The only way for me the penalty shouldn't have been given is if the ball had gone into the net (and the ref hadn't blown the whistle before it went in).
No doubt the EPL had a hand in the draw too.

The first game doesn’t fit with the dirty Leeds tag.CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 7:17 pm in which case we would miss Eddie Gray's brilliance in the first match before the replay.

Didn't watch but looks like we are in control and then blow up at the end similar to other games this season. Credit to them for coming through

If we were to beat Chelsea and City beat Southampton, then even if we lost to City, with them likely to have got a Europen place due to their league position, as runners up in the cup would we get a european spot ??

I'm sorry to be negative after a win, but I was right initially and allowed a few goals to sway my thinking - Nmecha is a donkey.
He offered nothing defending from the front and lost the ball every time it went near him.
I wouldn't want him starting again in cup or league.

Worryingly, referees & VAR could releagate us!The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 5:48 pm Shocking reffing again, foul on Struijk and no clue where 11 minutes comes from, there was only 3 or 4 for the pen decision
Far too many decisions not going our way.

Even Leeds players say so ... my guess West Ham don't throw Bowen to the wolves rest of season and his was as bad..

Just on train heading back from an exhausting 3 hours. I was expecting a scrappy 0-0 and penalties, with both teams too timid to create much. I got that a bit wrong
. How on earth did we not win it normal time but how did we manage to get to penalties after they equalised? After those soporific games against Sunderland, palace and Brentford I was giving up on any further entertainment watching Leeds this season. Whilst it was great to watch something different I do wish they wouldn't put us through the wringer so cruelly. At least we got there in the end. Just hope that the injuries to stach and rodon are not the most significant moments for the outcome of this season.

I didn't expect Bowen to miss.
