Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 5th May) How much could Leeds bring in this summer from player sales?

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 5th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

How much could Leeds bring in this summer from player sales?

With promotion to the Premier League now all but secured, Leeds United can turn its attention to a busy summer rebuild. The club’s first priority will be to trim the squad’s periphery and, crucially, to convert the market value of three fringe forwards into cash that can be ploughed back into new signings. Current estimates suggest that the sales of Joel Piroe, Joe Gelhardt and Largie Ramazani will collectively fetch around £50 million, £15 million for Piroe, £10 million four Joseph, £10 million for Gelhardt and another £15 million for Ramazani. Despite three of the four having a year left on their terms by the time next season comes around, goal scorers tend to keep their values, especially if they are in demand.

Piroe, the Dutch‑born hitman has attracted interest from the Championship, Eredivisie clubs and Scottish Premier League sides. His finishing ability brings a rare commodity, and Leeds are expected to set a price tag in the region of £15 million. Gelhardt, meanwhile, has already begun to carve out a reputation as a prolific front‑line presence. After helping Hull City secure a play‑off berth with 14 goals and five assists, many clubs outside of the Premier League are monitoring him with interest. A £10 million fee is widely regarded as realistic.

Ramazani’s trajectory has been less straightforward. After a slow start at Valencia, the Belgium ace has become a favourite of Carlos Corberán. His pace and dribbling have added a new dimension to the La Liga side’s counter‑attacking play. Although he can blow hot and cold, he can produce moments of magic that can turn a game. Leeds are confident that a £15 million offer will be met, especially given the player’s desire to make the move permanent.

The fourth name on the transfer horizon, Mateo Joseph poses a more complex puzzle. The 22‑year‑old forward, currently on loan at Mallorca, suffered an ACL rupture during a training drill at the Ciudad Deportiva Antonio Asensio in Majorca. Though the operation tow weeks ago in Barcelona was successful, full rehabilitation will not be complete until the next season. With only a year left on his Leeds contract, his market value is speculative; a £10 m, yet Majorca have made it clear that they want to keep the former Spanish U21 hitman for next season.

Leeds have massive say in London clubs top flight status

Following a pivotal 2-1 victory at Villa Park, Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League campaign has received a much-needed injection of momentum, yet the challenge ahead remains daunting. As the battle for survival narrows into a tense, two-horse race between Spurs and West Ham, Leeds United has emerged as the ultimate kingmaker. Having effectively secured their top-flight status, Leeds will face both relegation-threatened London clubs in the final stretch, with a crucial clash at Tottenham looming this coming Monday, May 11.

Spurs enter this fixture in a precarious physical state. While initial fears regarding Rodrigo Bentancur and Micky van de Ven were allayed by manager Roberto De Zerbi, who confirmed the duo were merely suffering from fatigue and minor knocks, the broader injury list remains extensive. Tottenham are already confirmed to be without Cristian Romero, Xavi Simons, and Mohammed Kudus for the remainder of the season, while long-term absentees such as Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies, and Dejan Kulusevski continue to deplete the squad’s depth.

With shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario’s status still uncertain due to a hernia and James Maddison unlikely to be fit to start, the Lilywhites will need another Villa performance if they are to turn Daniel Farke's side over. For their part, Leeds continue to manage their own absences, with Ilia Gruev and Gabi Gudmundsson side-lined, but Daniel Farke's side enters the contest with the confidence of a team that has already cleared the hurdle of survival.

£50 mill plus? Whoever came up with that figure must have their head stuck in the treacle pot. If we get half that my gob will be smacked.

Sales of players - will believe it when I see it. We rarely seem to get what they are worth. PS - I'd still rather Ramrazani stays.

This weekends results made even more clear why 10 points from the last 12 was so bloomin' vital. We are still not home hosed so I'd rather not worry about which London club goes down when we could just as easily swap places. Let's just play each match like we're going to win it.

That said. By the time we play spurs we may be safe due to Wham playing Arsenal on Sunday. For what's its worth I wouldn't be surprised if Spurs and Wham don't get any more points this season.

£50m for those 4, someone is playing football manager. We'll get nowt for Joseph, more likely his injury will last for most of his contract and then he will go on a free. Gelhardt, love the guy but more likely a couple of million, maximum £5m. Piroe more likely to be around £10m and Largie depends what the market is like but would reckon £10m tops. As such think we'd do well to get £25m for the lot.

We're not getting 15M for Piroe unless a prem club wants him and we've basically said all season he's not good enough
Ramazani might get us our money back but it won't be Valencia
Joseph has no value, no one is paying for a footballer out for a year at least, he'll be at ER next season or released with a comp package
Gelhardt maybe worth 6M?

Maybe 20M for the three?

About 11 quid! We contracted some right 5h1te/wasters (Harrison/Wober etc). I’m happy with the likes of Perri/Longstaff and even though we (may have) overpaid (esp for Longstaff) these 2 have a future here IMO. Gruev/Gelhardt/Piroe should move on. There is money there but you have to question some of our recruiting. Harrison and Wober are not worth my mentioning them: wasters…

As it became clear Piroe would be largely redundant this year I thought going north of the border in January, preferably Rangers until the end of the season would have benefitted him and Rangers and kept his stock high with a summer sale in mind. He'd have scored goals there. If he does end up going there I expect they will get a bargain given the link between the clubs and we lose money on him overall. Largie seems our most sellable asset of the ones who aren't in our plans. I want Gnonto to stay. Surely Isaac Schmidt is worth a few million too after featuring 17 times in the Bundesliga. Wober £1.5m?

I think a figure of 25/30 million is more realistic for incoming cash.

There’s also a good chance Palace don’t get any more points this season.

Ramazani is better than Gnonto IMO. I doubt he’d want to stay due to the way Farke treated him but I’d keep him over Gnonto. We have 100% wasted Piroe and gambled (and lost) on any value he held. Seriously the recruiting/foresight has been abysmal in our transfer dealings for too many years. You have to blame the 49’ers for this.

We’ll get £10m each for Ramazani and Piroe, £7m for Gelhardt and Nish (£0) for Joseph. Gruev has to be worth £10-15m of anybody’s money if we will let him go. We’ll be lucky to get £5m each for Harrison/Wober. Am I missing anyone?

It’s more important to get wages allocation back than cash for some of them! I’d phk Harrison/Wober off for nish just to get them off the payroll. Quid each maybe on a good day haha 👍

Oh Schmidt: forgot about him. £2m…

And James: £12m if we’re lucky. Top top Championship player but not Prem standard…

There’s a good £60m there: I’d be happy with that…

For me it is a case of trusting the manager. He clearly saw Okafor as his preferred player rather than Ramazani and similarly last year preferred Manor Solomon. I think many of us though Ramiazani was better than Soloman initially but credit to Farke and Solomon because Solomon was a huge reason why we did so well.

Similarly this year and for all the doubts about Okafor it is hard to argue with his recent form.

I would say Farke has a good eye for players. He originally started in that line of work before becoming a manager.

I think Piroe was a signing because he was available, because he guaranteed championship goals rather than perhaps being what Farke was looking for. Don't forget that in Farke's first season Piroe was dropped for Bamford who seemed to fit in better with how we were trying to play. Then in season 2 Farke started the season with Joseph up front. Joseph didn't take his chance and Piroe was scoring as a sub so Piroe almost forced the decision. As such I would say Piroe was a good signing (likely best there was available) but not the perfect signing for the system.

Ramazani is a strange one and possibly was a case of the transfer team wanting him more than Farke did. Again maybe the best player that was available - he had the pace, ability and was prepared to play in the championship. Farke preferred Solomon, maybe less dynamic but probably more of a guaranteed end product - similar in a way to Pablo Hernandez - less explosive but able to pick the right pass at the right time, or score a crucial goal. Glad he has done well in Spain as hopefully it increases our chance of making money back on him, or hopefully a profit.

It is though just a case that as the team improves certain players will get left behind. Ideally we trim the players who have made little impact and the money raised means we don't have to sell key players.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bournauw move on this summer as well.

Joffy maybe 10m if Hull promote.

It's tricky with Largie and Piroe, but they were brought in with promotion in mind.
Dan James has been the reason Largie was loaned and then ironically James gets injured and we don't miss either of them.

It really depends if clubs want them but don't expect a profit on him or Piroe.
If we got 20 for them both, under the circumstances that would be decent.
