Have a lovely time!

I am a very big baseball fan and have made it a goal to see a game at every major league park. So far I've visited over half (and over twenty minor league parks, too). This coming weekend I'll be going to PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Saturday and the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati on Sunday before heading home to Southern Illinois.

Southern Illinois, believe it or not, is a great place to while away a summer. Beautiful scenery and some wineries that make what I call first rate second rate wine. Vinifera grapes don't grow well here, but other grapes, like Norton or Chambourcin (for reds) and Cayuga or Seyval Blanc (for white) do quite well. Nobody will ever mistake a Norton for a Grand Cru Bordeaux, but the wineries around here make Norton about as well as Norton can be made and they almost always have live music on the weekends. There are also some outstanding microbreweries around here, one or two of which have garnered national, if not international, reputations. Scratch Brewing, in particular, makes spectacular beers and serves fabulous food, too, in an absolutely beautiful setting.

I don't get to enjoy these places during the school year and I've spent pretty much every summer since moving here working on getting papers published and earning tenure, but now that I've cleared that hurdle I can spend the summer enjoying what the area has to offer.

Thanks John. That all sounds like my sort of place, maybe we should do a house swap some time & you can come here & enjoy the rain and a good pint of Guinness & we’ll go listen to music and sip a beer and a nice red. I enjoy a good glass of Port so I’m going to be spoiled over the next few days. Slainte 🍷

Not my fault my forehead starts at my eyebrows & ends at my neck.
