DF has played Gnonto at right back / wing back a couple of times now.
It’s a strange one.

I thought it should go to Harry Wilson.

They all made a difference along with long staff.

Me

I don't change my opinion based on a sub appearance in a friendly.

He played well tonight (2nd to DCL imo).

He also hasn't played well enough in his time here to justify a new very expensive contract.

Keep him or don't but no new contract

Don't forget though that with 3 centrebacks it can be more of an attacking position than a defensive one. All about weighing the balance between what extra you get from a player attack wise in comparison to what you lose defensively. Similarly can see Dan James playing well there.

Huge learning curve, loved the run into the box for Wilson's sublime pass, no clue why it was called back if anything the foul was on Willy.

Credit to Farke for whatever was said at ht and the subs.

No idea what was wrong first half, too many gaps.

I still maintain Ampadu pressing high will cost us more than it will benefit us though.

Don't like it.

Nice to win though and genuinely play well 2nd half.

Really? I didn't think Wilson looked sharp at all. He came close on a couple of ball progressions. But just couldn't pull them off today. I stilll feel it's going to take him a couple of months to really bed in and start contributing. Hope I'm wrong!

Depends on what is considered expensive. As a valuable squad member on a decent prem wage then it would be foolish to get rid as we'd likely have to splurge £20m+ on a replacement and guess what, we'd have to pay that player wages too.

That for me is why we give him something like a 3 year extension and it may be that ina couple of years time he has slipped down the pecking order - but for this season I certainly feel he is worthy of a place in our squad and likely will be for a couple more.

Today showed how it is sometimes not about individual players but how well players mesh together. Midfield first half was probably our 3 best midfielders but doesn't work and I don't think it did last year. You give it a different look, add the pace of Aaronsen, box to box and coverage of Longstaff and Ampadu anchoring and it was a midfield that opened up space. Similarly DCL's movement opens up the space, ditto Wilson and even though Wilson didn't quite click it played a part in us finding space.

Would give Aaronsen man of the match as the single biggest impact.

People forget the level of frustration he caused

The losses of possession the poor passes the missed chances.

It's all very good being a decent player on occasion but it is occasionally, it's 1in5 at best even maybe 1 in 10.

Today was one of his good games, their will be 5 games where it's the total opposite.

We've been here before with Harrison for example, a good few games then they revert and you can't give them away.

The issue with BA as a squad player is you are far more likely to get the bad version than the good in sparing appearances.

He has 0 consistency, squad players are players you should be able to rely on to be a 6/7 out of ten occasionally

That isn't Aaronson.

Wilson nipped in a few times to break up play. He always looked dangerous on the attack. A few almost moments. His corner kicks were on the money.

Good result, builds some confidence and more importantly gets more minutes in the legs. Lets not forget this is just a friendly pre season game and lets not get carried away :roflmao:
