Is London a sh*thole?

There are good and bad aspects of all cities, be it in London, Leeds or Cardiff.

Count me in.

In the past England had lots of small settlements scattered along rivers and woodland consisting of just a few hundred villagers. Without returning to surfdom, agricultural tenants with lords my dream of a future England is one of village church bells, woodlands, clean air, organic farming and open spaces. Village life where English villagers aren't keeping heads bowed to a screen with voices curtailed , whilst never really knowing who lives amongst them.

It's a dream, but can I make the dream a reality?

But spent a year travelling back and forth from Ireland to London twice a month about 20 years ago visiting a girlfriend who was studying there... Have some very fond memories of around Cricklewood and Kilburn of that time...

Everything has changed since then - isn't that all our problems? We're all old miserable gits now and we miss the world of our younger days?

There's obviously a reason many companies who operate there have London weighting in wages ....it's far more expensive than elsewhere .

London has definitely changed over the years and its not as enjoyable to visit. The crime problem has been on the rise for years and the
Police are overrun to deal with a growing number of theft on the streets. The standards are dropping and I feel sorry for the residents that have to put up King Khan the untouchable mayor that screws the living daylights out of people with his taxes and hairbrained schemes to extract as much money as possible. He has destroyed the capital, and if it wasn't for his followers that vote him in everytime
he would have be ousted years ago. Is it a SH? well that maybe that's a bit to strong but its heading downwards with no real hope of recovery.

Some incredible places of interest in London.
St Pauls and the Whispering Gallery.
Natural History museum.
Albert Hall.
The National Gallery is free and exceptionally good.
Great parks.
Not many cities can boast all that.
Certainly parts are pretty bad and run down. Crime obviously. But as a place for an occasional visit it does boast some amazing history and places well worth visiting.
Southampton was voted the worst city in the UK apparently but if Blackpool were a city then its the biggest shithole I’ve ever visited.
As Jenny Pitman said about Folkstone it should be painted orange if there is another world war.

Trouble is........ It costs you nearly as much as a holiday to get to London these days..... Trains and Tubes are a fortune,and as for going by car.........

The best way to travel to London is by yacht. Seriously. I've done it 3 times and its fabulous. Take the tide down from Felixtowe, a ten hour sail down to the river Medway (crossing the mouth of the Thames). Pick up a buoy at Queenborough for the night. In the morning take the tide up the Thames. (7 hours) Under the Datrmouth Bridge, through the Thames barrier, around the millennium dome, past Greenwich and around Canary Wharf. Then, you can't go any further as Tower Bridge is smack in front of you. What an incredible sight.

Tie up in St Katharine dock for a week and its fantastic. Right next door to The tower of London, the most amazing pubs and Italian restaurant down Wapping High Street. We did several of the famous London Walks, the best one being the Jack the Ripper one taking in all his murder sights and haunts.

Its difficult to explain how very different the experience of being in London on a boat is.....its a whole different world. I loved it.
