That defense was painful to watch. Thank God I didn't drive to the bar across town . DUI for sure.

I thought it was a great game bar the result.

The penalty changed the game, gave them a lift. 3 goals in what 12 mins from them. Farke readied the subs at 2-2 but they didn’t get on before the 3rd went in.

To suggest he should have made subs at half time to match theirs after a very solid 1st half, albeit BA, Longstaff and Nmecha struggled for the most part, would have been very harsh on the players.

You have to give them the benefit of doubt or you send out a message that they are not good enough to play against top teams. It is a squad game and you cannot dent players confidence unnecessarily, you never know when they will have to be called upon.

Whilst he could have acted sooner, Farke will have wanted to issue instructions he is a details man, he is not the type to just throw on four players on a whim with little information.

The change in the match was a runaway train. Neto’s pace caused us a lot of problems and the mouth breather showed his quality.

I quite liked Bard, he is a good back up, decent 1st game, although he looks about 50 years old.

Tough result - big game at home coming up on Monday. The reaction is everything to put this behind us.

Did you not see the graft he put in to get the ball across for the Aaronson goal? That was creative, no?

I do not think the result had anything to do with the suggested role of Ampadu. We were on top until it went belly up. I haven’t read much of the forum - but was anyone commenting about his position at half time.

I have most of the reaction crew on blocks. I work too many hours in a rather stressful job to read couch managers I told you so drivel.

Gonna push back here or I get the "danny bashing" stuff.

I mentioned on pre season I didn't like how we'd set up with Amps pushing forward and a massive gap between midfield and defence.

It's been noticeable in every game.

Maybe not a deciding factor in this game but it doesn't work imo and we are noticeably far easier to get at than we were last season.

We'd have conceded far more without Trafford and Muha already

I saw it and it was delightful. But it's not his best role in my opinion OB. His best role is playing in front of back line and providing protection. Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Well said. Easy to say that Farke shouldhave brought the subs on at half time to counter them but at that point we'd been on top for the last 30 minutes so it was better to keep with the momentum and then make changes. And it proved right, to some extent, with us then getting our 2nd goal - with Aaronsen the scorer and he, along with Longstaff, would have been the prime candidates to have been taken off.

THe penalty changed the match. If we hold on t our 2-0 lead for a few more minutes I think we run out comfortable winners. We also then make the subs from a position of strength to give us a stranglehold on the game. Goals that are not deserved really knock the stuffing out of you as a player - as well as giving the team benefitting a huge lift, thinking it is their day etc. I think we were still getting our head round it when the equaliser went in. The momentum was with Chelsea then and in a blink of an eye we are behind and then as we are trying to make changes the 4th goes in.

Credit to the lads for pulling a goal back and it was good to see DCL getting on the scoresheet after he fluffed the chances on Saturday.

For me it is a case of don't overanalyse things, don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. There were some good things and some concerning things. The defence needs a leader/organiser. Elvedo will likely come back in and be that man (and Rodon hopefully back soon too). Trafford coming in will be a huge plus too. Bard did okay but Gudmunnson is likely better. And the rest of the midfield and attack that started v Brighton will likely start the next match.

So it was a bad 30 or 40 minute spell. It doesn't define us, sometimes games get away from you, every shot goes in etc. We go again and hopefully get a good result next Monday.

Never will be convinced by the actual point of these cup games with a weakened team.

No matter how some want to reframe it, but that was an embarassing second half performance. I get the gulf in class regarding what Chelsea can bring on, but we looked terrified of Palmer and allowed him the freedom of the park. Defensively, it was Sunday league stuff at times, and the keeper looks a real steal. The likes of Nmecha, Longstaff and Aaronson are rarely ever going to impact a game. If DCL gets injured or fatigued, Nmecha as back up at this level, is sub-standadrd.

I’m not disagreeing at all, I was simply pointing out that he does have an attacking bone in his body, he did very similar with the Fulham/Nmecha goal last season, which I had the privilege to watch close up from the Kop. Yes, he is a destroyer, and a bloody good one at that, but he has so much more. That was my point.

Not at all sure what you are getting at. As I have just explained in the post above to the poster I was commenting on, I was pointing out that Ampadu has a creative edge to his game, and that to call him a ‘pure destroyer’ is doing him a disservice.
I never mentioned the loss had anything to do with Ampadu, I thought he was excellent.

Also your second paragraph confuses me, I don’t see what relation it has to do with my post. If you are implying my posts are drivel, it’s a comment that’s been made before so there must be something in it. Block away, knock yourself out. BTW this is an online forum, couch managers is exactly what you are going to get.

Kinda defeats the whole AI “charva” alter ego, doesn’t it? Besides, here in Texas nobody would dare walk around in a bally. You’d get about three seconds before somebody yelled, “Well, what in the yee-efing-haw is this?” and then fired a round in self-defense.
This ain’t Bradford, mate. Open carry in the Wild West. The bally stays safely in the AI universe, where the biggest threat is a dodgy image generator giving me a finger.

The defeat at Chelsea was pure crazy comedy football, where a chaotic backline turned the pitch into a frantic Benny Hill chase mixed with Keystone Cops slapstick. It was an absurd Monty python "Twits at the Olympics sketch"

And what is even more absurd is the punditry on here that tries to analyse the game and make sense of it all... that endeavour is about as fruitful as waiting for Godot.

I accept that the balaclava is, as you say, AI generated and intended as a bit of fun. I’m not suggesting that you or your alter-ego personally intended any offence.

But symbols and images can mean very different things to different people. Here in Britain a black balaclava is not simply a piece of comic imagery. It has very strong associations with political extremism, violence and people who deliberately conceal their identity while attacking others. Given what we have been seeing in places such as Dover, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Nottingham this week, those associations are particularly raw at the moment.

For me, there is an additional personal dimension. Images associated with political extremism are not something I can easily dismiss as harmless fun, because members of my own family were among the millions murdered by a tyrannical regime of political extremists.

You are of course perfectly entitled to keep the avatar. I just wanted you to understand why, from my perspective, it isn’t quite the innocent bit of AI fun that it may appear to you.

I'd say the same thing about the delay in making changes

We were winning. You dont typically make changes when things are going well. Chelsea were losing and needed to make changes. And even though we didn't make changes, we still went 2-0 up. DF had definitely made the right calls up until that point.

Lots of varied and valid points have been made. For what it's worth now, for me the changes should have been made at 2-1. The penalty gave their players and the fans a lift and we all saw what came next.
It wasn't as bad as some have said, good first half, a good start to the second, and we even looked decent after the changes were made. At 4-3 Stach had what looked like a goal bound shot blocked by DCL. Had that gone in, we may have held out for pens.
Zetterer and Bard only look like squad fillers, nothing more, we've yet to see what Bahoya can do.
