Drinking At Football Matches

How do match going fans feel about Andy Burnham’s idea to allow drinking in the stands at football matches?
I like a pre-match beer like lots of fans but do I want a shower of beer in the Kop when Leeds score or someone decides to throw a pint at Bruno Fernandes ? Nooooooooo, not for me.

Many fans drink far too much before a game, it would be carnage in the Kop & the South Stand.

I can remember the days when supporters would go to games with carrier bags full of beer I certainly don’t think that they’ll be going back to having fans drinking from glass bottles, if they want to allow the average punter, and not just the prawn sandwich brigade have a beer then it should be in a designated area and not at your seat in the stands. It should be up to the individual clubs to decide weather they want to sell beer next to the pie stand

They allow drinking in the stands at pretty much every major sporting event in the USA.

My brother used to have season tickets to the New England Patriots of the NFL in their "no alcohol" section. People would go up on the concourse, buy as many beers as they were allowed, guzzle them all, and stagger back down to their seats. The people in the "no alcohol" section were often more inebriated than those in other parts of the stadium.

Drunks are going to find a way, alas.

As John said, drinking beer in the stands has always been a part of professional sports in the USA. What's new here is that now you can enjoy a beer at many College Sporting events. Personally, I like it and it doesn't seem to fuel a lot of violence here.

It’s not the violence issue for me Paul, there are plenty of opportunities to get a beer before or during the game, football goal celebrations are a life force of their own. There’s no way 10,000 pints of beer aren’t going up in the air if we score a goal, may need to start wearing a raincoat going to games.

The very reason I rarely went down to the concourses at half-time when I attended away games.

There are plenty of bars within the stadium & a massive outside bar just past the the kop gates.

Also The Peacock pub behind the South Stand is very popular on matchdays.

My opinion is, if you can't live without a beer for two hours during a game, one has a serious problem.

If it does actually get into law, I’m guessing the final decision will rest with the clubs.

The club will then provide designated areas, one doubts that will be the KOP, and it certainly won’t be the South Stand.

I'm fond of a beer at the football. I'm fond of a beer at the rugby and cricket where you can drink in the stands too.

But I genuinely don't think we need to be drinking in the stands at football. Don't really need to be getting covered in beer by some pissed up idiot slinging their pint around when we score.

They have no problems at Headingley, rugby or cricket,

Elland Road would be a nightmare.

I would have to swap my seat to another stand.

I assure you, the Western Terrace is carnage at the end of test matches and Yorkshire T20 games.
