Somerset need 200 from 29 overs - definitely possible.1964white wrote:Somerset 162 for 2 (39 overs)

Meanwhile those serial flops from Hampshire are threatening a good result; 178 for 4 at tea needing 103 more to beat Notts.

There's a minimum of 16 overs in the last hour, so it's however many overs are bowled before 5 o'clock plus 16. And the 60 overs was after lunch, not the whole innings.1964white wrote: I thought you said 60 overs GW, if so it is only 21 overs
Rashid got another - 165 for 3
And Hants are threatening to mess up at 182 for 5

Well done Hants - didn't think you'd do it when you needed 55 with only 2 wickets left.faaip wrote:Just got in first time on today so what is it? 18 runs with two wickets standing and 4 overs ..great (proper) finish
That sets up next week's game nicely.

Breznan and Shahzad picked for England, Hants slaughtered Wawickshire Saturday and are getting back to form. We'll be missing Peiterson of course but as a Hants player of 2 years standing I think he's still to make his 4 day debut

Re: O/T: The County Cricket Thread 2010
Went to the Rose Bowl today and had a great time.
In many ways it was an extraordinary day's play. For starters, Hampshire won the toss and put Yorkshire in - a decision that Nic Pothas might have regretted as we scored 195 for the first wicket. I could understand his decision at one level; I've never seen a pitch with quite as much grass on it. Trouble was, the Hants bowlers didn't use it, and being a very hot sunny day the ball wasn't swinging at all. Since the forecast is for cloud and to be rather cooler tomorrow onwards, it might do more for the Yorkshire bowlers.
The match started at a furious pace; Adam Lyth was into double figures on the 5th ball of the match (to be followed by Joe Sayers who reached that milestone some 65 minutes later) and in fact took 4 successive fours off Tomlinson; 16 for 0 after 1 over. Whenever Sayers was on strike however, things were sedate - in fact funereal.
By lunch, Yorkshire were 115 for no wicket, Lyth having 79 of them and Sayers 22. The afternoon went on in the same way until Lyth hit a tired shot to mid-off and was out for 133 with the score at 195. Then the anchors were dropped as McGrath joined Sayers and tried to go just as slowly. 201 for 1 at tea, then two quick wickets as first Sayers edged one to the ironic cheers of the travelling Yorkies who had watched him grind out 4 hours 10 minutes for his 49 and then Rudolph, out trying to force the pace. Gale came out, had words with McGrath and the scoring rate picked up again till the close at 300 for 3.
Biggest plus for Yorkshire was obviously Lyth who is in the form of his (young) life right now. For Hampshire, the bowler who impressed me most was Dominic Cork; at 38 and on a blisteringly hot day he kept running in with pace and aggression and was the only bowler to make the ball fly and the batsmen jump. We have to push on tomorrow to at least get the 4th batting bonus point; the full 5 look beyond us with only 14 overs left to score 100. Then it's get the biggest first innings score we can and hope the conditions are more helpful to us and see if we can knock them over twice.

Re: O/T: The County Cricket Thread 2010
I'm hoping to get there wednesday, afternoon probably, depending on this job which I have to finish by Friday. We certainly missed Cork at the start of the season always lifts the team with his never say die attitude, but our bowling is a weak point without Mascarenhas and a decent spinner (though I obviously haven't seen Hereth play )Guildford White wrote:Went to the Rose Bowl today and had a great time.

Hopefully we can salvage a high scoring draw
