All we want is out dignity and a Job for us when our time comes to an End but most people just dont want to know or give us a chance. Applied for 200 jobs now and im leaving the RAF in 3 weeks and not getting anywhere. The government sjhould give tax breaks to employers who employ ex service personnel
!ou should need credit points for service in the Forces. The more prior service you have given, the more points you get. You should also get bonus points for every award, decoration you get. Therefore, someone who has done 20 years in the Forces doing back to back tours and with more medals than a US Army General should pretty much walk into a public sector job.
Why do I not think it should apply to all public sector workers? Well other public sector workers can remain in post for the rest of their working lives (usually). The vast majority of service personnel need to start looking for a new job by the time they are in their late 30s/early 40s, depending on their engagement/commission.
Like footballers, we have relatively short careers. Unlike footallers, most of us do not earn enough to retire on at the end of our careers.
While I agree to some extent, it isn't as if it's unusual. EVERYONE is struggling to find work at the moment.

Tiny, who are you with? How do we buy wristbands, just send you a cheque for the bands plus postage or pay via Paypal or what? Also, how do we get goods to you? Would it be easiest to find out what matches you are attending and just bring stuff for you or do you want it sent to you or do you want to give the name and address of someone to send a shoe box of stuff to in theatre? Finally, can you let me know by PM which clerks you have out there? I'm SPS myself.

Heard a great story on Radio 5 the other week about a locksmith who stated to work with the British Legion to retrain soldiers. They pay for the soliders travel up to Whitley Bay where they are based, put them up in a hotel and train them up, give them a full toolkit and everything required to set up their own business. More businesses should do things like this.
I didn't know quite where to post this on MOT....I decided to put it here.
T'was the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house, made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney, with presents to give,
And to see just who, in this home, did live.
I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand,
On the wall hung pictures, of far distant lands.
With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,
A sober thought, came through my mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a soldier, once i could see clearly.
The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor, in this one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, the room in disorder,
Not how i pictured, a true British soldier.
Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read?
Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?
I realised the families, that i saw this night,
Owed their lives to these soldiers, who were willing to fight.
Soon round the world, the children would play,
And grownups would celebrate, a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers, like the one lying here.
I couldn't help wonder, how many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas eve, in a land far from home.
The very thought brought, a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees, and started to cry.
The soldier awakened, and i heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, i don't ask for more,
My life is my god, my country, my corps...."
The soldier rolled over, and drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it, i continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours, so silent and still,
And we both shivered, from the cold night's chill.
I did not want to leave, on that cold, dark, night,
This guardian of honor, so willing to fight.
Then the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas day, all is secure."
One look at my watch, and i knew he was right.
"Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night."
This poem was written by a Peacekeeping soldier stationed overseas. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable

Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to all of the service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.
Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

Love your work Twiggs. I concur completely with your comments. Looks like a great site and they deserve some support. As an ex British Serviceman I can completely understand the messages here on this site. I have ordered a few 'things' for home.

The Grassroots Sports Foundation aims to improve the lives of Disabled, Injured, Sick and Under Privileged people throughout the UK. We are not a Charity, we are official fundraisers for Help for Heroes. As part of our launch we have introduced ‘Football For Forces’.
‘Football For Forces’ is targeting Football Fans but we are asking anybody interested to visit our website and make a donation of at least £1.00 of which every penny goes straight to Help for Heroes. The difference to usual requests for donations and fundraisers is that everybody who does donate at least £1.00 can be entered into a prize draw. The prizes on offer are -
· 5 x £500 Cash Prizes (the Cash Prizes have been donated to the GSF and do not come out of the donations received).
· A David Beckham signed England Shirt.
· A Signed and Framed Lionel Messi Photo.
· A pair of Adidas F50 adizone football boots of which the winner can choose their size.
The prizes have been donated to the GSF to help us with our ‘Football For Forces’ launch.

If it was kill or be killed, or if my family was threatened, I guess I'd get in first. I hope I am never in that position, as I just don't know HOW I could deal with taking a life.
Post war psychological issues seriously need to be looked at, with the suicide percentages of ex soldiers as high as they are, through lack of counselling and support.
Help for Heroes needs funds for EVERY aspect of our military casualties.
Jack Cummings had to overcome both a serious physical handicap AND the mental stress that caused him, after being maimed in Afghanistan.
He is now taking part in the Endeavor Paraplegic games in Oklahoma, this week - less than a year after the incident.
He has been "lucky" and has had help and support from his wonderful family as well as thousands of well wishers who have posted support on his facebook page.
However - there are SO many ex military heroes who don't have that support and have to work out their traumas on their own...and sometimes they just give up....
Which is exactly why this fixed post is on this forum. Hopefully to bring awareness and support for Help For Heroes.
Anyone reading this, please scroll up to my last post on here about the lad raising money for this cause, with his series of marathon runs. Donate if you can please....if not and you live along his route - please turn out to cheer him on, or even run with hime for a mile or so. Help For Heroes needs funds. And Not just for the physically maimed.
