SELECTION HEADACHE!!!

Post by ldj90 »

As much as we all like to think we know what would be best for the team, would any of us really like to face the dilemma that SG will face in the near future? Imagine that all of our squad is fully fit and free from suspension...who would make your starting 11? It's taken me hours and lots of scribbling out to finally decide on mine! Here it is:

Schmeichel

Connolly---Kisnorbo---Naylor---White

Gradel---Howson---Killa---Snodgrass

McCormack

Paynter

I think with the last few signings, Grayson has done a good job of not limiting himself to 4-4-2.

At the beginning of the season against Derby, we couldn't play to 4-5-1, but thats no longer the case...

GK Schmeichel

DR Connolly DC Collins DC Naylor DL Bessone

DMC Bruce

MC Kilkenny Howson

AMR Gradel AML Sam

ST Becchio / McCormack

But also you could change it so you have 1 striker 2 midfielders and have a more advanced midfielder or deep forward, like Steven Gerrard, and 2 wingers so you could have McCormack playing behind Somma Becchio or Paynter with Gradel, Watt and Sam out wide

So many options.

There will never be a situation where every player is available. We now have plenty of players, some versatile that can do 2 or 3 jobs. So I don't think he'll have too much of a headache, I can see him taking it game by game and selecting the team/tactics to suit each game.

Just so long as it's "Simon Says" and not "123 O'leary"

Its good to have selection problems. We have depth in most positions, but for me I'd start our team like this;

Schmeichel
Connolly - Kisnorbo - Naylor - Bessone
Kilkenny - Howson
Sam - Nunez/Snodgrass - McCormack
Becchio

So basically a 4-2-3-1 like the world cup winning side. I think its similar to our current formation, so I think it will be something along those lines when Larry is picking from a fully fit side. Though right now it would probably end up being a 4-4-2 come 4-4-1-1;

Schmeichel
Connolly - Naylor - Collins - Bessone
Sam - Kilkenny - Howson - Johnson
Becchio - McCormack

Still, good for Larry to have these kind of selection nightmares.

GK Schmeichel
RB connolly
CB Kisnorbo
CB Bruce
LB Bessonne/Johnson-this is a problem area as we dont seem to have a single solida option there
CM Howson
CM Clayton
RW Watt
LW Sam
AM Nunez
FW Mcormack/Becchio depending on the opposition
It just goes to show what great strength in depth we have when another completely different starting 11 could be named that could maybe do just as goood a job as the one named here.

Just wait till that trouble causer Snodgrass comes back and gives Grayson more headaches.

Grayson wont change a winning team as proved on many occasions, cant see where Nunez or Clayton will be given a chance, may see Corm coming in though, cant see him warming the bench, can see Snods coming in for Watt or a CM as he is only on loan...
