O/T - Greatest Comedian of All Time?

Post by Toby »

Who do you think is? He or she can also be dead if you want. that still counts.

I'd go for Peter Kay, here's a good example of why.

Yeah Karl Pilkington is funny. I downloaded all the podcasts and old XFM shows when i was at uni. The show an idiot abroad was good too. I wouldn't say he is a comedian in the true sense of the word, as he doesn't plan a routine, do any stand-up etc. He is just a normal bloke who is very funny.

Top comedians IMO:

George Carlin
Chris Rock
Milton Jones
Rich Hall
George Carlin
Joe Rogan
Richard Pryor
Bernie Mac
Dylan Moran

and probably George Carlin.

i wouldnt say theyre the funniest dudes ever, because i'm no expert, and i dont watch that much stand up comedy... but Frank Skinner, Michael McIntyre, and Jason Manford ALWAYS make me laugh....

A funny Aussie comedian is Carl Barron...

This is the first one i found on youtube..

Tommy Cooper - from the day and hour that I first saw him.

Reginald D Hunter I have seen several times and he is excellent.

From my 'own side' Tommy Tiernan and Andrew Maxwell - partly because they remain outside the mainstream and so do a lot more 'edgy' material than - say - Dara O'Briain, who - still funny - is becoming too corporate for my tastes.

And - on occasions - our centre back partnership.
Beware the fury of a patient man - John Dryden.

Good call

Also, This sort of subject is so, well, subjective.

Peter sellers
Bob monkhouse
Morcambe and wise
Laurel and Hardy
connolly
lee evans
Lee Mack
Eddie izard

List could go on. I really cannot put one down as being better than any other.

saw him live in about 1972 down in Cornwall I think it must have been, my first stand up

as for the greatest, that's hard to say but Stand Ups would be

Woody Allen
Bill Hicks
Steve Martin (crap movies but what a stand up)
Steve Wright (forget Vine this guy is the king of the pun)
Eddie Izzard (anyone who can be funny in more than one language has to be a genius)

currently it Simon (" Look I'm sorry mate but one of those babies in there is Welsh and I'm not taking the chance") Evans
and Jimeoin (Eyebrows up)

not a stand up per se but one of the funniest men of all time Groucho Marx
