Becchio - formation or loss of form ?

Post by 1964white »

Becchio has exceeded all expectations this season but in the last few games his form has dipped significantly

Is it down to the 4-4-2 system that Grayson has deployed since the Portsmouth home game

or

Has Becchio lost his form as all strikers do

My opinion is Luci is playing a deeper role due to the formation, also think he looks shattered & doesn't link up too well with Somma

Fans say we have plenty of options but have we :?: Paynter looks distinctly ordinary to me & McCormack who obviously has a touch of quality hasn't set the world alight yet. Somma cannot play the lone role & is not a team player although his goal ratio is excellent

Atm we are relying on the extroadinary energy & skills of Gradel & Snodgrass, i only hope these two remain injury free as Max & Snoddy have created mayhem for most defences this season

Got it in one. I noticed yesterday he was in more of an advanced midfield position. He also looked knackered and he didn't link well with Somma.

You're spot on there

If us supporters can see it surely Larry will spot it :spider:

Expect a premiership striker coming in too :!: are there any decent one's available :?:

Becchio and Somma score goals for fun, you would think they would be great together.

Sometimes quality just doesn't link up how you'd think it would.

But i personally think it will come together sooner or later.

He hasn't played well for a few games now, dire at the KC & the same again yesterday

Paynter is average, a L1 striker at best & the we are still waiting to see if McCormack will cut it at Leeds, hence why Becchio is the first name on the team sheet when it comes down to the strikers

Becchio has one goal in the last seven games or two in the last 11 games

It is no coincidence since we stated playing 4-4-2 Becchio's goals have dried up, spends too much time playing deep where as when were playing 4-5-1 he was in the box more often. Becchio rarely scores from outside the box

i personally think paynter has'nt had that much pitch time and when he does get on it's either for the last few minutes or as replacement for becchio as the lone striker to hold it up which clearly is'nt his game.
it's such a shame our midfield seems incapable of getting a win in a 4-4-2 which would give our plentiful amount of strikers more oppurtunities to get on the score sheet and get more pitch time.
we are a 4-5-1 one trick pony.
mcormack will come good...he's got the talent.

I thought it was because he was the fourth top scorer in The Championship with 13 and the second placed striker and fourth placed player in any position in the Actim Index.

Yes he has been off colour these last couple of games and his game is clearly more suited to the 4-5-1. He is, however, on the teamsheet through the merit of his performances so far this season, not through the poor form of his competition.

Don't get me wrong Doc, i would still start with Becchio in a 4-5-1 formation if the lad isn't knackered that is

Sure. I do wonder if he was thrown back from injury a little too quickly as well.

I still believe Paynter could play that rôle. As far as I am aware though the only time he has started there was against Arsenal where he looked pretty ineffective, but if we are going to judge him on one start up top on his own against Arsenal then what chance does the lad have?

I think Grayson rested him for a couple of games last season. It sounds like he could benefit from that again. He's proven he is capable at this level, but perhaps he is fatigued. It's not just his goals, he keeps defences occupied and therefore goals coming in from the midfield. I'm not too worried about it. We're the top scorers (or thereabouts). We're scoring goals. It's the defence which needs improving and it was good to get clean sheet yesterday.

Formation doesn't suit him, Somma has stolen his clothes AND YET Becchio should have scored 2 yesterday. No excuse for missing one of them which was barn door stuff.

The biggest loser from 442 is Howson who got forward once yesterday and would you believe it was on the end of Gradel's cross to make the easiest of goals for Somma.

At the KC Howson only kicked in as an attacking force when we were tow down. We had to go for it and Howson was back to his best.

I miss Johnny Howson attacking midfield player/match winner.

Hard decisions for Larry me thinks. Somma scores for fun but the other 10 are on their own other than those scoring moments.

Killa looked really rusty when he eventually appeared yesterday.

Paynter looks - sorry to say it - average. This could be his first and last season as a leeds player. (come on score already)
McCormack, again NEEDS a run out but isnt getting it, and when he does come on he is placed on the wing? (I really cant figure out this guys preferred position)
Howson and johnson in the middle - we know this is wrong. and howson needs support to get forward. other wise he is a light weight out of position player (if snoddy gets injured can see him playing on the wing)
Becchio - Looks burned out and jaded how long does he need off? If it was me I would send him for a weeks break, and under no circumstances roll on the floor.

Why larry is suddenly employing a 4-4-2 formation when the 4-5-1 has worked its magic is a bit odd to me, but hey im not the manger.
WE''RE LEEDS UNITED, WE''LL NEVER BE DEFEATED!

Paul Green was warnobs best signing.
If you disagree please send me a PM so we can get in to a fight.

Before yesterday he'd only played 51 minutes in the last 4/5 weeks. His natural body shape can best be described as 'toby'.

We fupped last season cause players were wrecked but we had to play them as we had nobody, give Becchio a week off and let McCormack and Somma have a go, think they would be good together, but Becchio will always come back into the team after a rest
