The negativity from some fans about every single move Larry and Bates make is astonishing.

Brown is the same age as Derry [and Bowyer]. Brown does a similar job to Derry. Brown has done that job successfully at a higher level than Derry. Derry was one of the reasons QPR were promoted, one of the championship's players of the season. We lacked midfield bite last year where we deployed the only non competitive Aussie in history with the forward momentum of a tortoise and very little stamina. We needed someone who got stuck in and protected the back 4. Brown sounds like a useful acquisition then?

Wrong - he's another potential liability/not good enough/cheap/a metaphor for stealing season ticket money. Until we sign Mascherano, Brown is just fine. Hope he didn't expect a warm welcome though.

It's a joke which is why it's treated with contempt
I have it from someone who knows that Bradley Johnson wanted £12000 for 3 years we said no
Michael brown is on £12000 for a year with an option of a second
In 2 years time what will brown be worth
In 2 years time what will Johnson be worth
That's why were a joke
4 weeks to go and no keeper and a panic signing cos got no midfield now were talking about bessone getting another chance
That's why its gonna be a long hard season
Steve stone had been a good player before we signed him
Wonder if he's available again

I suggest we hold onto this quote for future analysis. It feels prophetic to me -- against the run of public opinion, it could lend credence to faaip's claim of being a Great Seer. I thoroughly hope Brown plays a big role for us this season, but for some reason, I share faaip's skepticism about this.

Whether Brown is last season's Amdy Faye or Shaun Derry remains to be seen. Until then, lets put away the ropes, pitchforks and torches for later, if needed.

Amdy Faye had been injured for 2 years and came to us as a trialist... Michael Brown played every single game of the season leading up to Boxing Day, and then was made to sit out because if he'd played again Portsmouth would have had to pay him some money or something.... He's been injured once in his entire career (i've been reading up )

I fail to see the similarities...

Faye was a punt, Brown isnt..... He is ready and raring to go, and after Fulham, Wigan, and Portsmouth, he probably cant wait to play in front of a decent crowd again...

Welcome Michael Brown!

I am glad Brown is here, but
at 34 there's no doubt his best years are behind him. He;s got a 1 year contract, then what? Regardless of what division we're in in 12 months time we'll have to look for someone else...........again
Brown should be the cover for the real deal, which we have failed to deliver IMO

And BTW, I would nt have a clue who the real deal is within our wage structure, and I'm glad Killa and Johnson have gone.

Could I just add one thing about Michael Brown.

Viewed in isolation his age is a concern.

Viewed in the context of a team who, as Grayson admits, lacked experienced voices when the sh!t hit the fan last year... a team who habitually threw away victories, who could NEVER close a game down when they needed to, it's an absolutely stonking signing.

Yeah he won't be a five year player for us, but he might help us be better this season than last.

Good signing. We have a lot of young talented players at the club, and somone like Brown will help them grow even more. He will be the perfect mentor for the Turner twin that playes in CM

I haven't caved in Faaip. I need to see how Brown performs in the white shirt of Leeds before i can make a judgement on whether it is a good signing or not

I've always admired Brown as a player over the years, yes his age concerns me but he could give us the experience we required. I just hope he can keep himself fit as it is a long old season, he looks lean & in good nick by the pictures i've seen of him in training. He has to have more about him than Killa which is an obvious plus for starters !

I'm more concerned about the defence tbh though Brown will give us more cover in that department & is probably the first piece of the jigsaw in resolving the defensive problems

My other worry is that Brown piles in with too many over the top challenges just outside the box, happened too many times in 2010/11 & we got punished for it !

I actually agree that the signing of Brown is a decent bit of business....its just that if Bates took a dump in the middle of ER during half-time you would applaud it...you never actually saw the Clash did you ?

Some beauts in there. Probably his role for us will not see him getting that far forward too often but if he can still take a free kick like that then we have a weapon there.

Hope experience has taken some of the recklessness out of his tackle though. We all know how forgiving refs are towards Leeds players. :red: We need to be Tough Committed Leeds but Dirty Leeds will soon be Ten Man Leeds and Depleted Squad Due To Suspensions Leeds.

more importantly I've made two definatly and three probably playoffs before the All Star Break.....

currently working on a sticky situation involving a 12 team 4 player keeper league. 42 players held out of the draft and (after taking over from someone who left) am now desperatly trying to improve on Portis and Buckhalter et al. no shot at the playoffs this year I've ditched the lot except for Welker for whom I lose the ninth round pick. now trying to trade up the draft to try to get at least 9 picks in the first 55

did someone say something about football?

Not a bet I'd care to take...the Clash bit that is

back to Brown though and looking at his history of almost career ending tackles and phony (?) injuries. I get the feeling that (as we are Leeds) he will be punished often (expect a speight of yellow cards) and I can see him spending a while on suspension

Looks a decent signing for us. Age isn't a concern - it is his job to guide the team into the premier league and then probably get a huge bonus for doing it. His best years may be behind him but those were spent in the premiership - if he was 27 years old he wouldn't be joining us.

Injury record is great, obviously any player can get injured but hopefully he will be okay with us.

I'm 35, 36 in September and still play as centre back week in week out at Sunday League level. Might be slightly slower than I once was but can assure you I can still keep pace with anyone in my team and it is only the occasional real whippet that might get away from me (but not for long). What I can say though is that my reading of the game is a lot better than it was when I was younger and as such I don't need to make anywhere near the amount of last ditch tackles as I did then as I stop the danger before it gets to that point. Likewise Brown should be a good reader of the game and will anticipate things before they happen and be in the right position rather than running round like a headless chicken chasing the play. It is also something that doesn't worry me regarding our keeper as Kasper's reading of the game was poor leading to him having to make more saves than he needed to.

He can tackle, he can pass so straightaway he has replaced BJ and Killa. Add in reading the game and we are stronger than last season and can play with an extra striker. Hardly like Killa was a quick player either.
