Millwall game Gary tribute news

Yeah Millwall put in a lot of overly physical challenges, it seemed to be their gameplan and it was a great game for us to have Brown in as he got stuck right back into them (how 64 gave him such a low mark is baffling). Perhaps in season's past the tactics might have worked against us but I think we are mentally stronger now and also have a few players prepared to get stuck in like Kisnorbo and Brown and even Pugh who won the ball in the lead up to Jonny getting caught). The referee did let a lot go.

With Howson he got to his feet despite the stretcher being available but then immediately signalled himself to be substituted.

Brown limped off, probably a muscle pull as I didn't see any specific knock although he was in the thick of a few good tackles (and one where he was lucky not to be booked).

I rated Brown 5 because in the 38 minutes he was on the pitch he sloppily gave the ball 3 or 4 times & as you said he was lucky not to receive a yellow, he is liability from what i have seen of him. I really hope Brown succeeds in the 2nd half of the season, i have serious reservations though !

BTW, I have never left a game early, unbelieveably some did again today.
They failed to see the crowd, management and team as one at the finish - and should be ashamed.
We have a Club like no other, - I was proud to be there today

i leave on 90th minute every game when there's more than one goal difference winning or losing, that few minutes makes a 30 min difference getting off car park, or the difference of 2 and 1/4 hour trip back and 3, and believe me i have nothing to be ashamed of, unbelievably some fans travel 300 miles round trip and more.

Ratings:

McCarthy 8 Not as busy as in some matches but pulled off two very good saves. Commands area well. It would be fantastic, but entirely unrealistic, to have him and Lonergan in competition for the number one jersey.

Connolly 7 Did well and got forward supporting Sam once we asserted ourselves in the second half. As a result though needed covering by Lees a few times.

Lees 8 If we are worried about Premiership clubs targeting Snoddy and Howson look out for bids for Tom too. A centre back improving at the rate he is at this age will be a target for big clubs with an eye on the future. Superb against Millwall's second half aerial bombardment, on the floor he has the assurance of a defender five years older.

Kisnorbo 7 Pace does seem to be returning to an extent, though Millwall didn't exactly test it much. Improved once he had his bandage back.

White 8 Frightens defences with his pace whether on the wing or at left back. Opposition defences may as well start the game with three bookings.

Snodgrass 9 MOTM Busy committed performance. Played in 4 positions and then some. Stunning free kick and a great header.

Howson 8 Really was bossing things until his injury. Be a real shame to lose him just as he was able to play his natural game.

Clayton 7 Still looking good but a relatively quiet performance.

Brown 7 Got stuck in well and gave Millwall as good as we got. Injury doesn't look serious.

Pugh 7 Very interesting to see the way he and White swapped rôles down the left. His move centrally gave us our control of the game back.

Becchio 7 Coped well with a battering from the Millwall defence. Late header deserved a goal.

Subs:

Sam 8 Crossed well in the second half and took their left back to pieces. Assist was the least he deserved and would have scored but for an excellent save.

Keogh 7 Very energetic performance. Made lots of space for Snoddy and Becchio up front.

Larry 9 Gameplan shattered by two midfield injuries shuffled his pack well to win the game.

Ref 9 Good consistent game I thought. Let the game flow pretty well with no major errors.

can only admire that dedication, if it weren't for fact business is based in west mids would move closer to leeds

At the time i was in a similar position with my own business in the south

Thankfully i only have a 130 mile all round trip thesedays

I used to leave early especially if we were losing but still had to wait for Dan who liked to stay till the end.

Win, lose or draw, I just stay till the end nowadays anyway.

Becchio did what a lone striker needs to do and that is get the ball down and lay it off to the supporting midfield, something that our other strikers don't do as well. Thought Keogh looked lively when he came on he seemed to be everywhere but the penalty area.

As said already, very emotional. I travelled upto ER with Kent Whites (6am start) to see the game we had already got tickets for before the sad news last weekend. We laid a wreath in the shape of the badge at Billy's statue from all of us and took some time to reflect on one of 'our' greats. I think a lot of us were openly in tears.
The match itself was a fantastic atmosphere with the 11-mins of Gary, Gary chants and the way we played for the opening 15-20-min. We then seemed to 'bog-down' as Millwall got into their game. They are not a good side anymore, lacking any attacking flair. The clash between Kis and Henderson after 5-min may have affected the latter more!!
Howson's injury happened in front of where we were in N2 and it wasn't a foul, he just seemed to go down heavy on the knee when tackled fairly, but it was obvious from the way he went he was going off. Up to that point I thought he played really well. Then Brown went off and we seemed to struggle to get our shape. I was glad to see half time to allow us to regroup. Second half we looked much better but still couldn't break them down. I said to my mate that Clayton didn't seem to be doing much and needed to get involved in pushing the play. He then went on the run when he got fouled and Snoddy scored from the resulting free-kick. After that we settled and could have scored 4 or 5.
We stayed beyond the end - as we always do as the traffic means no point in rushing home - but we were staying over in town anyway. SG did a lap applauding the fans - fantastic.
I went to the members Xmas party in the evening. As expected Howson & Brown weren't there, neither was McCormack (anybody heard if his wife gave birth yet?), but there was no Becchio either and couldn't find out why. Anybody shed any light if he was injured? Got a shirt & book signed by the rest including SG and Papa Smurf himself!

Just caught up with the FL show highlights and - apart from welling up at all the tributes - what a great 2nd goal from Snoddy! I also thought the Millwall keeper was the main reason it was only 2-0. I would not rule out an auto place as (I hope) Southampton might be on the start of a bad run and we know from experience what can happen then.

I would say confidence is fairly high - and, if not, it should be - after 2 wins on the bounce. As always, all we can do is look after our own games.
