Gutted for Andy, always liked him, and thought he did well enough for us. Thanks again Andy.

Re: Keogh move off
His signing was dependent on Ross going to them as a makeweight, I'm led to believe.
I'd rather keep Ross than see that deal go down. Keogh has run a lot and possibly made some assists, but as a striker he has been a flop at our club. Hasn't Paynter scored as many as Keogh this season for Leeds?

When he came, wasn't the agreement that he was on loan until Jan 2nd and the deal to be made permanent if he impressed enough to get a contract. If that's the case then the fee would of already been agreed, personally I won't believe this until either club make an official statement.

Re: Keogh move off
Keogh works hard and creates, but I'd still rather have two strikers that score goals than one scorer and one creator...

No, since you ask, he hasn't.Twiggster wrote: Hasn't Paynter scored as many as Keogh this season for Leeds?
Even if you add his 22 League appearances last season as well, Paynter hasn't scored as many for Leeds as Keogh has this season.

Why would you need to ask, this is football not christmas shopping - however much he costs we can afford him. It's simply that Bates chooses not to buy him preferring to build another wall somewhere. Apparently no player is beyond our means. We simply choose not to spend our war chest preferring real estate at home and abroad.faaip wrote:

Question: If Wolves said their asking price was £1 million - which is roughly what Doncaster paid for the prolific championship goalscorer Billy Sharp - then would you be happy for the club to shell out that much money for him?white.riot wrote:

Personally I wouldn't. The lad is not a prolific goal scorer at any level he's played at professionally. His record at Scunthorpe in league one is barely 1 in 4. His record at Wolves is about 1 in 6. And his record here is 1 in 10. Those aren't exactly sparkling stats for someone who proclaims to be a striker. At least Emile Heskey is a big physical presence who can intimidate defenders, but Keogh is not in the same mould. Even taking the lad as a winger he proves not to be worth a large fee because he is not among the top assists in the league, he isn't a good crosser of the ball, and frankly his end product is all but none existent. At best he's an average championship utility player.
He's done a solid job for us, but I don't believe he is the type of striker who can take us forwards. So it begs the question as to what the lad is really worth, and it also means that our willingness to make the deal permanent would be based entirely on Wolves' asking price, and not, "preferring to build another wall somewhere". Even at 500k it is debatable whether or not the lad is really worth it, because we aren't by any means a rich club, so any money we have that can be used on players has to be used wisely, and personally I don't think signing Keogh would be a wise signing. If our aim for this year is promotion, which Bates and Grayson are making sounds about, then next year in the premier league Keogh is nowhere near good enough for even the bench; and if we are preparing for a top two challenge next season in the championship, then we need someone better than Keogh to lead that charge.
For me, I am not overly bothered if we aren't willing to match Wolves' asking price. He has been solid, but not spectacular. If they want more than say 250k, I would tell them to get stuffed, because anything more would prove in my opinion to be a waste of money that we simply don't seem to have a lot of. We'd be better investing money on Matt Tubbs of league two, or Bradley Wright-Phillips in league one, than signing up Keogh.

Re: Keogh move off
completely agree. a bit like nunez in that he is a luxury (utility) player that we cannot afford at the moment (altho nunez has contributed a fair few goals and is probably cheaper??) He has only started once in the last six games so what is the point in buying him if grayson isn't even going to play him. If he starts playing him and mccormack again then i would support the signing of keogh but if not then no thanks. money (assuming there is any) could be better spent else where.MikeLUFC7 wrote:

Yeah don't see any point signing him even if he was a freebie as although I like his work rate he simply isn't adding anything to the team or much of an impact off the bench

Re: Keogh move off
Im not fussed either way... he's been a decent player for the club, but he is essentially a striker that doesnt score goals...
Luciano has showed over the years that it is possible to be a target man, a hold up man, and partner to a Beckford-type, and still get goals for yourself...
Keith Andrews is the name that's getting me excited. I dont even know if he's a decent player, but he's scored 5 at Ipswich (i read somewhere), and they made him the captain, so he must have something about him...
He is exactly the sort of player we've all been crying out for since Micky Doyle left...
On Keogh, though.... I'd like to see him get a chance as the lone striker in the 4-5-1
